There must be a number I'm forgetting, but it's actually hard to find franchises of any real length that haven't had missteps along the way. All of the above are superb, but if I had to pick the ones I'm most impressed by its the main console series of both Super Mario and Zelda. When one considers how long they've been making them and how many installments they've had, it's hard to believe there's really nothing that isn't at least "good" among the group.

Otherwise, Rockstar (with GTA) and Blizzard (with their three primary franchises) really hold themselves to a quality standard that most don't. That's just my impression, anyway.

Great post, thanks for giving it so much thought!

@bold: I agree. Considering both Super Maro and The Legend of Zelda are 30 years old, it's remarkable how consistently great they've been - excluding the non-canon CD-i games.

If I could just remove the DS Zelda's I'd have no problem saying Zelda.
Even the games that people don't generally love as much are adored by many.

I would bring up the CDi games, but people would hate me for that. Hahahahahahahaha.

But seriously now, people are bringing Soul series, Uncharted, etc. I don't think franchises with 3 or 4 games can be considered "flawless". They didn't had enough time to screw up. Yet.

Those didn't happen :(

Hah yeah, that's why I specified the main console series for both, which is basically true for everything I listed. A lot of those franchises have some spinoffs they'd likely rather forget lol

Mega Man Zero Series
Paper Mario Series would be here, but Sticker Star happened....

I Love Playstation, but my uncle works at Nintendo.

GTA: The GTA games have different quality as Rockstar experiments a lot but I haven't played any game in the series which is less than good. I've played GTA III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS, IV, EFLC and V.

God of War: The God of War games have been consistently high quality and it is one of the most consistent game series. Ascension was not excellent like the other games in the series but it was still very good. I've played all six games.

Uncharted: The Uncharted games aren't as praiseworthy as people hail it to be, none is a masterpiece like they are said to be, but they are all good and great games. The first one is the weakest but still has some good qualities and 2 and 3 are very good games. I've played the 1, 2 and 3.

Tekken: Namco makes consistently great 3D fighters and all Tekken games have deep mechanics but are also fun to play for anyone. I've played Tekken 3, 5, Dark Resurrection and 6.

Soul Calibur: Project Soul is a great dev and Soul Calibur is my favourite fighting games series. The mechanics are incredible and the games are very fun. It lacks single player modes, not too much but it does not offer as much single player variety as Tekken but its pretty good and the core gameplay is great. I've played Soul Calibur IV, Broken Destiny and V.

Dark Souls: Its a very consistent series like God of War and From Software have improved over the formula. Dark Souls II like Ascension while not being as good as the rest of the series is still very good. I've played all three games.

It's a slow starter for sure due to it being more similar to DQ 1-3 than 4-8. The closest to a black sheep we've had for DQ is 7. Which was not well recieved by western reviewers on its release since it was a PS1 game that looked like a SNES game

Guess I'll have to finish it... someday. I don't take reviews as a measure of quality though. What I played of DQ 7 I loved it.

For reviews, I feel like they were good at addressing the issues of the game. Its definitely the slowest of the series and while definitely not bad, was clunky. Thankfully the 3DS remake fixes those issues

Call of Duty
Madden

While some might disagree with me, I would say Final Fantasy.Sure that it has its ups and downs, but they all are at least great games.

And all visual novels made by Spike Chunsoft.Every single one is excellent.

Lol, oh GOD no. Even if we include the absolutely terrible XIII series, FF II was also a travesty.

Splatoon

Ahm. Pokemon comes to mind. Genwunners will always complain, but I don't think there's a generally accepted "bad" Pokemon game.
Is the Xenoblade series different from the Xenosaga series? I would say XBlade fits the criteria, but I dont know about XSaga.
2D Metroid is another one. Animal Crossing.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Xenoblade. Both of them are masterpieces in their own right.

Opinions.
