Ahm. Pokemon comes to mind. Genwunners will always complain, but I don't think there's a generally accepted "bad" Pokemon game.
Is the Xenoblade series different from the Xenosaga series? I would say XBlade fits the criteria, but I dont know about XSaga.
2D Metroid is another one. Animal Crossing.

If its main series only, then Pokemon for sure.

Xenoblade has been around since 2010, I would count it.

Xenosaga transcends boundaries. Regardless of what people say about episode II, the whole project and the storyline are of epic proportions and scale. Nothing has come close to them ever since. Not flawless, but epic.

Smash bros.

Mario Kart

Marvel Ultimate Allience/X-men Legends

Virtua Fighter

I believe those have a nice track record.

The Mass effect trilogy isn't awful. Yes, the ending wasn't good, but it was still enjoyable all the way! MGS is also a decent choice as well, or even bioshock.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Main series pokemon. Always solid and improves the metagame to make it enjoyable.

Wipeout was always great. So was Mario Kart. Each game simply got better than the other.

Professor Layton is probably the most consistent plot-focused game you can find for the 3ds. It provides a great story(two trilogies], and none of the games ever decreased in quality or moved to horrible cliches

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Metal Gear Solid is probably the best, i think its the best gaming franchise of all time as all of its games are top notch quality and are among the best games of their respective generations. Also Uncharted, all 4 mainline games are amazing and even Golden Abyss is great. Other games like Grand Theft Auto, Bioshock, Dark Souls. I would add God of war cause i personally liked Ascension, i thought it was far better than the general reception it received.

Uncharted, for one. Grand Theft Auto could be another one along Mass Effect.

Around the Network

  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES and GB games was amazing as well as latest Wii and WiiU games)
  • Diablo
  • God of War (both portable games are amazing even now. Yeah, I think Ascension is amazing game too)
  • Bioshock (I love the second one too. Two hands combat was fresh and awesome. Minerva's Den DLC is among the best in whole gaming history)
  • Uncharted (Golden Abyss is a perfect game for portable console. Drake's Fortune also was a great game almost 10 years ago)

Disgaea, Dynasty Tactics, Kessen, Warcraft, Infamous, Smash Bros, Souls, Bioshock, God of War.

We can always get specific and say Insomniac Spyro, Naughty Dog Uncharted, etc etc.

Warcraft has been excellent in all its iterations, though many people did not play the original Warcraft.
While people sometimes dislike Escape, I think every entry in the Monkey Island series is great.
Persona 1 was good for its time -- it was just tarnished by a terrible localization and the fact that it hasn't held up well compared to its successors. As such, the Persona series is pretty much flawless (though I personally didn't see the appeal of Eternal Punishment, I know several people that swear by it)-- including its many spin-offs.

Actually... this man has a point. What's the point in having a flawless record if it means you never dare to take any (significant) risks?

I guess one could hold that against a game. I'd say Madden and Fifa (sports in general) tend to barely update their games from one installment to the next, but that's because they're Sports games.

I suppose the problem is most great franchises stick to what they know works. Seriously, just about all of the good ones I can think of don't change much from one installment to the next, but I've never really minded that.
