Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So...NX is a "New Way of Playing Games"... I'm Scared

We can play Zelda U on it.
Só i think the tradicional way to play would be still there

I would hope so. If Zelda U is a port, it must be traditional in some form.

Yeah I'm somewhat nervous too lol.

Yeah, it's not like a scary nervous but it's just that Kimishima's statements can literally interpret to a Nintendo Fridge. People on Youtube are predicting it's a State of Mind or even a choose you own adventure VR device... :(

I'm at least glad to know they understand the importance of having a good starting line up. This is giving me confidence that they're going to have a better launch and line of games prepared for the NX than they did the Wii U.

What is curious is the NX being "a new way of playing games" and it "not being a successor to the Wii U and 3DS". I wonder if this means it will have a new gimmick, or just drop the dual screen entirely and focus more on something else.

This is Nintendo Third Pillar BS. Executives protecting their asses and setup for potential failures or negative results.

Only after the NX is a succeed and sales well; will it be promoted has the successor of WiiU and 3DS.

It worked with the DS even though the Game Boy was their strongest brand.

The DS was sucessor to GBA but they were afraid to admit that GBA was being discontinued and all new games would come out on the DS.

NX is going to replace both the WiiU and 3ds, both these console are no longer going to get much support but they won't to avoid that messaging.

Please no gamepad, 2 screens for handheld works perfectly but not when you play on a TV.

Or at least make it an optional add-on to play Wii U games BC, ship the console with a normal controller please PLEASE.

i think having a controller screen is fine but it needs ro be much smaller & sleeker. A 6.2 inch screen is overkill but a 4 inch screen? That would be fine.

Actually that's a good idea, my issue with the gamepad is how big bulky and heavy it is, it looks like 2002 tech.

If it was say like the Vita or similar i would be ok.

I still don't like games like Star Fox that make me use 2 screens though, but it's fine for a map or inventory.

That's probably not a good sign.

Edit: let me expand a little here.

I think it's probaby a bad idea for Nintendo to try and reinvent the wheel again. Their hit to miss ratio is way too low and they simply haven't proven themselves to understand what gamers want.

I am well aware of this, I consider myself a Nintendo fan first and foremost but I am critical enough of them to understand that Wii U didn't do them any favors and if NX simply believes that new ways to play is enough to compete against PS4, not so much Xbone, they need to at least make sure their gimmicks don't get to their head or make sure that NX is a console that third parties can't afford to miss out developing for. It's possible to be powerful and new.

The article never said any of that.

Even if the system is as powerful as its rivals, the selling point has to be its new features.  When you're arriving 3 years late, it's not enough to be as good as them.  Has to offer something very unique.  A traditional console at this point would flop hard.

My question is: Do gamers really need all the uniqueness Nintendo tries to sell these days?

As loathe as I am to admit it, they probably do need a gimmick now. They can't compete head on with Sony/MS.

However if the gimmick isn't something amazing, they are then pretty much fucked because like the Wii U they will be stuck with an underpowered console that has very little marketshare.

They've said this is not a continuation of the Wii or Wii U brands, so we'll see what they've come up with I guess. I'm not really holding my breath.

I think when you are trying to force innovation you end up with poor products.

Same here, escpecially when all the steps they are taking (releasing in a timeframe not to compete with Sony/Xbox, showing info on the console outside of a major gaming event, insisting the NX is a "new way to play games") point more toward a console exactly like Wii and Wii U.

Wii and Wii U were different.

NX will be different.

NX = Wii 3

God bless You.

At this point, nintendo is almost fucked anyway. 3rd parties don't trust it, and it can't hold itself with just 1st parties. So good luck...

That's true. Wii U is an example of a Nintendo-only box. It doesn't work.

Man I'm so desperate to see what the heck this thing is haha

I'm very happy that their focus is on having a decent library at launch, even if that costs them the holiday sales. It's probably worthwhile in the long run.

Really, though, how have there not been significant leaks yet? lol

lol, nicely done.

Yeah, it's not out of character at all for Nintendo to say that it's a new way of playing games, nor is it unusual for them to claim it's not the "successor" to a system even when it winds up being just that.

Gamers don't need anything.  It's a luxury market.  Nintendo's job, like Sony and Microsoft, is to manufacture demand.

Again, if Nintendo makes something that isn't unique, then they're just offering what their rivals already have three years later.  It'd be suicidal.
