This however, is a joke review that is being used in an official setting. The other reviews, good scores or bad, are fine

Has the reviewer said that it is a joke review?

Read the first post. The Washington post themselves gave the game 4 stars out of 4 on May 11. The next day they release a "review" that starkly contradicts what they wrote. Given that the review doesn't even have a score (making the 4/10 sketchy) and that the Washington post wouldn't stand by 2 very different reviews, it's only natural to assume that the review without the score and in direct contrast to every other review is meant to be a joke.

who cares though? Well, I'm pretty sure naughty dog cares since meta critic does impact sales. Meta critic should care because otherwise, it hurts their legitimacy. Every gamer should care because these are the things that reinforce the "gaming journalism is a joke" claim (especially after the polygon and doom scandal)

While people throwing a hissy fit because a game got a 4/10 from 1 review is pathetic, the fact that the review doesn't even have a score shouldn't allow it to be on metacritic to begin with.

Which is, actually, much of the reason why the petition exists in the first place. It's not merely due to the score. That said, word is the score was sent to Metacritic after the review was published. Seems a little sketchy, and I'm highly against a 4/10 for a fully functional, quality title, but it is what it is and people need to respect the reviewer's opinion, however outrageous they believe it to be.

then in that case this thread should be locked bro. This is being blown out of proportion and we all know his review will not be taken down.

If a 93 cant sell their game, then nothing will...

While I understand the sentiment, it does feel a bit excessive, may as well petition the removal of metacritic altogether, then again the industry would likely be better off for it. It sucks for Naughty Dog, but 1 percentage point isn't going affect them, not like Sony are going to shut them down or change the way they work with them, as with other companies who received an, arguably, unfair average meta scores.

On the other hand, it is unethical, if people decide not to buy based on this "official" review. It's unlikely and tbh I'm not looking on WP's site as it's clearly click-bait, so I don't know how clear it is that it is a joke review, and I can't see metacritic putting a disclaimer up.

Don't ruin the moment

Currently Playing: Rocket League (PC/PS4), Dead Cells (PC)

LordyPlays on YouTube

It's 1 review. Who cares? It means nothing! The game's a masterpiece and everyone is well aware.

After looking at all the surrounding circumstances, there does seem to be some grounds for asking Metacritic to look into the validity of this review. Certain elements here don't seem to add up. I don't know if it should be removed or not but some things should probably be clarified. Also, the reviewer sounds pretty awful at his job but that's an issue for the Washington Post.

I've got to say, though, that's it kind of fun watching how people change their minds about things like this depending on the game involved.

This isn't about the game getting a bad score (at least for me it isn't), it's about not having joke scores impact an official score. It hurts gaming journalism in its entirety (especially after the doom polygon scandal)

Not gonna sign it because metacritic is pretty much a falsehood in a way. They factor some sites' scores multiple times and refuse to say which ones.

You are legit missing the point. It's not about the score, it's about joke reviews being accepted

I just dont get the joke I guess. The review seems incomplete, but the guy has some valid points.

The only joke is this petition.

At almost 1,500 signatures and celebrity attention.... I think it is gone well beyond a joke!

Celebrity attention, lmao.
