Yeah, I have to say that I think a $299 regular PS4 (possibly an updated model) and a $399 Neo make more sense.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

If there is a slim I think they will have to take the power unit out. They can't shrink anything else and I remember the PS2 slim also having an external power unit.

If there is a PS4 slim and a PS4 Neo this holiday season, i think we will get them at:

PS4 Slim $300
PS4Neo $400

I wouldn't be surprised if both are bundled with GTS with the PS4Neo getting a limited edition and being at the front of all holiday marketing campaigns.

lol @ last para.

But I agree with your first paragraph and that's why I believe there wont be any drastic pricecuts because Sony don't need to. Plus Sony will have the $300 Slim/Ps4 against the NX and will be in a great position to react with another $50 pricecut if they struggle against the NX

Well, that is if and only if Sony keeps the current PS4 as a "slim" option and sells it along side the Neo. I domt think that's what will happen tho.

I think the Neo will actually be smaller than the current PS4. I also think Sony will phase out the current PS4. They probably have certain manufacturing commitments tied to the current PS4 so we may still see them around for a bit. But those contracts will not be renewed with focus shifting exclusively to the Neo manufacturing. It's just all round cheaper having One SKU in the market.

Once the PS4 quotas are met, all there will be is the PS4 neo.

I think people haven't really thought about what a 16nm fab process allows. Currently on a 28nm process the PS4 SOC has a footprint of around 350mm2. technically, going to a 16nm process should mean you can basically make 3-4 times more chips on the same wafer if the SOC were an exact like or like shrink. But we know they GPU has been doubled. Overall, the SOC is more powerful, but it will still come in at less than 350mm2. Barring initial fabrication defects (which are usually higher at the start of any new fab process) the PS4 SOC will ultimately be costing Sony less down the road.

All that is saying is that I don't think dropping to $299 sometime next year is "drastic" per say. But hey, I thought by now the PS4 would be retailing for $299 so that about tells you how good my predictions are.

You could be right. It's nice to have some of the technical info. I suppose it depends on how much more the Neo would cost to produce than a Slim. If the productions cost between are very little then they could be thinking to only have one model on the market. Then it depends how are Sony looking at it. Maybe the Neo will be priced higher purely to capitalise on the PS4s success but they still will want to a have lower priced console in the market to compete with the X1 so they might have 2 different models, standard and 4k capable.

I'm gonna disagree with everyone.

Xboxone is going desperate mode this fall and will temporarily hit $249.99. The firesale difference in 2014 lead to massive wins, whereas they still lost in 2015 with price parity.

We will see a permanent $299 ps4 price drop, and a $249.99 holiday base bundle. There by all means will be at least a $100 (probably $150) difference in skus. They may even launch the neo at $499 and give it a 3ghz gpu to allow for ps3 emulation.

Wouldn't a slim be able to replace the current SKU?

Wouldnt the Neo be able to do that too?

I think he means the Neo and the Slim

But yes, I meant both.

No.  The neo is going to come out at a higher price. Even if it's a tech upgrade they would not throw away all the lower price sales they would get. Also a $399 neo only vs $249-299 xb1 would give MS the guaranteed win.

I know Sony has always done a Slim version of all their consoles since the PS1, multiple ones even.

But i just cant wrap my mind around a smaller PS4 HOW!? The thing is tiny as it is!

As for the NEO, like other people have said, i dont think it will be priced higher than the launch PS4. But hey, anything can happen!

I just hope Sony dont spend too much time talking about Hardware in their conference. I want it to be to the point and BOOM, right to the gamezzz.

This E3 will be glorious for Playstation owners, i just feel it in my balls!

Has anyone done the math on what size they predict the Neo to be based on the leaked specs. It is a smaller die size but there are more cores. What about RAM condensing. Does anything think the Neo can also get a good size reduction? That would help with manufacturing costs. Besides I belive there won't be a slim version of the original Ps4. If the neo is smaller that will serve as such and the neo will probably replace the original in production moving forward. So if it is 400 or more of will only be until the old sku is sold through at a reduced price like 300. Then the neo will hit a price drop in 2 phases to get down to 300 in time. Just expect that to be a while before the original is sold out.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

PS4 at $299,

NEO at $399-449, not so sure.

Why release a slim the same year you have 2 other major hardware releases? I think they'll save that for next year and focus on VR this year. I think the best strategy would be
VR in October
Neo in March-May 2017 at $400
Slim in September 2017 with pricecut to $300

I am Iron Man

Would say 299, but i think we don't wanna see a slim model and the ps4 neo will go with 399
