Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Project Spark Online Services Shut Down On August 12

I wonder if this was part of Microsoft's 'games as services' mandate that was issued to all first party studios. Was Mattrick to blame for all of that? That thing from Rare looks to be of the same mold.

The first wave of content from Microsoft Studios has been somewhat of a mess. I remember when it was said that their new line-up of studios would rival World Wide. It sounds like they need to stop handing out mandates and directions and instead let creators create what they envision. Hopefully that's what Spencer is planning.

LittleBigPlanet servers switched off ;)  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/littlebigplanet-servers-switched-off

LittleJoke aside, even the servers of the first LBP-game (2008), that don't need a subscription fee, are still online. Meanwhile Microsoft with their huge cloud computing / web space business can't afford the tiniest fraction of their Azure volume to keep the Spark server alive? It's a bit funny.

Game was horrible and bland.

And very, VERY hyped.

It couldn't be further away than true. There was absolutely no hype, no media attention, many people don't even know it was released and that is people who even know what it is. Many don't even know.

I thought project spark was supposed to be the next big thing,on this site at least.

Where are people saying this was hyped getting their information from???

Where are the threads on it, who has it in their sig, what videos went viral made by those lame youtube gamers???

There was no hype at all for this. Just like Sea, Scale and Recore. MS have made the most bizarre first party choices this gen. Whoever is in charge of green lighting games needs to retire permanent.

To be fair, Spark did generate a fair bit of attention ...

... when it was announced Microsoft was trying to use it to force people to adopt Windows 8.

After its first well recieved E3 showing in 2013 it faded into oblivion. It didn't feet like it had an actual release

Tell us whom, when, threads and posts. This site sounds more and more that people seem to live in an alternate universe than me.

Perhaps it's my fault so please show us who and when at this site said it would be the next big thing or even hype it through the roof.

What happens in bizarro isn't relevant in our universe. I think people confuse interest with hype.

Anyhow, Project Spark was actually pretty cool. But I guess Roblox is similar and appears to be more robust in features.

Bottom line, both Sony and MS have clearly lost interest in online focused gaming. Sony sold SOE, MS cancelled Fable Legends. The bubble has popped inspite of some exceptions.

Not, even remotely close to the truth...  Are forgetting MM is currently developing DREAMS??

Besides, this is not a thread about Sony.  Why bring thm up??

Dreams appears to be something very different than Project Spark or MMOs. First of all, it doesn't look like a service trying to make money from microtransactions and subscriptions.

I'm just pointing out there is a trend here that goes beyond MS.
