Fantastic Four Producer Wants Second Chance With Same Cast

"We were kind of messing with the DNA of the actual comic."

While not every superhero movie is a guaranteed critical hit, it is unusual for a much-loved comic book property to flop with both critics and audiences. Last year's Fantastic Four was unfortunately such a film, bombing at the box office and casting serious doubts over a sequel. However, producer Simon Kinberg has revealed that he still hopes to make another movie, and would like to reunite the cast.

In an interview with Den of Geek to promote X-Men: Apocalypse, Kinberg admitted that the first movie wasn't what it could've been. "We didn't make a good movie," he said, "The world voted, and I think they probably voted correctly. And you can't make a good movie every time out--not everybody does. We actually have a pretty good batting average, all things considered. But I think we made many mistakes when we made that movie--mistakes that we learned from and we wouldn't repeat."

"I think we tried to make a darker Fantastic Four movie, which seemed like a radical idea but we were kind of messing with the DNA of the actual comic instead of trusting the DNA of the comic."

Nevertheless, Kinberg went on to explain that Fox are still interested in making another Fantastic Four, and that he would be keen to use the same actors again. "We love that cast," he said. "I mean if I were to say to you now Michael B Jordan and Miles Teller, and Kate [Mara] and Jamie [Bell] are great actors--we love that cast. I love the comic, I mean I love it almost as much as X-Men.

"We'll try to be truer to the essence of the tone of Fantastic Four, which is completely--well, not completely, but largely--distinct from the X-Men, which is a brighter, funner, more optimistic tone.

"Nothing would make me happier than the world embracing a Fantastic Four movie."

Personal Note: We'll embrace a Fantastic Four movie when the rights go back to MARVEL.

Why can't he just give up ? also I think there will never ever be again a Fanastic 4 Movie featuring a black character, I know it's not his fault, but people will remember it for this thing imho :v

Never saw it. When movies seem to stray too far away from source material, it seems like a reoccurring pattern of shit movies. Hollywood seems to be learning somewhat...

Honestly you shouldnt fu** with the characters in comic books too much.

Casting a black guy, just because hes black, when the character hes supposed to be isnt, isnt a good move.

Imagine a new super mario movie,.... staring a chinese mario? or a black one?

People would go "thats not mario".

Comic book fans are the same.

Story being differnt? thats iffy stuff... messing with beloved characters? thats a no no.

Considering how good was the director's previous movie, Chronicle, I'm not sure this can be saved in any way or form. Especially when the words come from the producer, not the actual director.

In my opinion, The Fantastic Four aren't simply likeable enough to have a decent movie on their own. They're probably among Marvel's most boring superheroes, and it's reflected upon their comics, movies and merchandising, which simply pales in comparison to other different heroes. This being said, Fantastic Four was terrible not because of the cast or the fact that there's a black person or that the white one is the adopted sister, no; the movie's greatest problem was its terrible pace, lack of respect for the source material (like The Thing killing people, wtf?) and that it tooks ages to create the set-up for a simple fight and it ends before it can even begin.

I'd certainly hope that not another movie in the same vein is created.

^ this.

Why do they always do this? think they can "rewrite" a better story than the orginal?

It almost always turns out worse (and it p****s off fans of the books).

You want to base a movie off a book? do it right and stick to the story of the books.

Get out! Just with that statement we can understand you learned nothing.

"We'll try to be truer to the essence of the tone of Fantastic Four,..."

There in lies the issue.
You would try? to stay true to the essence of the comic? Thats the wrong mindset.
You "need" to be true to the damn thing, theres no trying.

Three times Fox has made this franchise into a movie, and three times they have failed. They don't get the fantastic Four and they certainly don't get Dr Doom who is probably one of the best comicbook villains. There is no fourth try for Fox, they should give it back to Marvel
