Gears of War 4 is releasing on October 11th of this year.

Chances of it beating all the previous software released on the console so far? According to VGC database, the top 5 software on Xbox One are:

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 2015 Shooter Activision 4.28 2.00 0.01 0.64 6.93
2. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2014 Shooter Activision 3.18 1.51 0.01 0.38 5.08
3. Grand Theft Auto V 2014 Action Take-Two Interactive 2.37 1.85 0.00 0.37 4.59
4. Fallout 4 2015 Role-Playing Bethesda Softworks 2.34 1.19 0.01 0.35 3.89
5. Halo 5: Guardians 2015 Shooter Microsoft Game Studios 2.42 1.08 0.02 0.36 3.88

While it definitively looks like a longshot, Gears of War particulary have done great in the past, spawning multi-million entries with strong first month sales and moderate legs:

1 Gears of War 2 X360 2008 Shooter Microsoft Game Studios 4.14 1.91 0.06 0.64 6.76
2 Gears of War 3 X360 2011 Shooter Microsoft Game Studios 4.05 1.62 0.07 0.49 6.23
3 Gears of War X360 2006 Shooter Microsoft Game Studios 3.54 1.89 0.07 0.60 6.10
4 Gears of War: Ultimate Edition XOne 2015 Shooter Microsoft Game Studios 1.92 0.29 0.00 0.25 2.46
5 Gears of War: Judgment X360 2013 Shooter Microsoft Game Studios 0.91 0.52 0.03 0.13 1.60

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition sold better than the Judgment prequel. Considering the fact that it's simply a remaster of the original one, can we expect such a huge success coming from the sequel to one of Xbox's most iconic franchises at this point?

The game would have to sell seven million units - a feat only Gears of War 2 has managed if we account the digital sales as well -. The userbase is much smaller than the 360's one; on the other hand, enough bundling and advertisement could do wonders.

Alternatively, do you think Gears of War 4 can become Xbox One's best-selling exclusive? It would have to beat Halo 5, which at this point is the biggest-selling one:

5. Halo 5: Guardians 2015 Shooter Microsoft Game Studios 2.42 1.08 0.02 0.36 3.88

I think it could become the best selling exclusive, but it won't be beating COD.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Is this a joke? Of Course not, and it won't be in the TOP 5.

Maybe best selling exclusives, At best.

Not a chance. I don't even know if it'll surpass Halo 5's numbers.

Two contradictory statements. Because if "maybe best selling exclusive" means the game must be, at least, on the Top 5, which you're already dismissing on the first sentence.

(Sorry Wright, I just wanted an excuse to use this image.)

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Like what you said maybe with bundles and other conditions I can see it passing Black Ops 3.

Proud to be a Californian.

It won't beat the COD games, but it might be the best selling exclusive outside of Halo.

Gears is a bit of an unknown quantity in the current generation; Gears 1 Ultimate did well, but a remaster of a classic and a brand new game are two different ball games. The X1's smaller base compared to the 360 could be a hindrance, but I think the bigger danger is if it rubs longtime fans the wrong way, like 343i's Halo games did versus Bungie's. The Coalition has some big shoes to fill.

Eventually, yes ...

The PS5 Exists.

I don't think any exclusive on any console (besides Nintendo consoles) will ever have a chance of being the best-selling game until COD dies.
