Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How many NX's does Nintendo need to sell for it to be considered a success?

For the NX to be a success how many units need to be sold?

10-20 million 8 1.91%

20-30 million 52 12.44%

30-40 million 137 32.78%

40-50 million 84 20.10%

50-60 million 93 22.25%

It doesnt matter what it sells NINTENDOOM! 27 6.46%

Whats an NX? 17 4.07%

Total:418

Simple and straightforward question. I think 30-35 million lifetime would be the starting line for a successful console. Anything more is icing on the cake, and anything less is another nail in the coffin.

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

60-80m if the NX works as both handheld and home console.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Aahm... could be over 30 million, should be over 50 million.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If its a handheld + console. Better be over 73 million otherwise it would be worse than wiiU + 3ds. Specially since the entire point of them having the same games or whatever is supposed be to have higher sales then their current model.

If its a handheld, 60+ million

If its a console, 20+ million

Treating it as a console, I think somewhere between 25-35m, depending on how long what's left of the generation lasts and how long Nintendo plans on keeping it before NX2.

bet: lost

30 million for the stationary NX

50 million for the mobile NX

I think the base NX genuinely will be a new form factor ... bigger than a traditional portable (tablet size) but very small for a console and portable.

that's a BIG success, with 30m-50m they would be successful. with 30m-50m they would have enough consoles out there to sell a lot of software, the real strength(attach rate)

If it's just a home console then I'd say 30m minimum.

This, Saves me typing it :)

40+ regardless if it's a handheld, home console or both. Nintendo can't really just turn a profit on it. People in general need to perceive it as a success. Is Nintendo still relevant as a video game console maker to gamers or is just a shadow of it's former self just trying to turn a profit? Is it able to replicate that wii's level of success or was that a fluke?

60mio +

even 3ds sold more and it kinda flopped
