I thank Sony because they would have reached out to mojang to get this on the vita.

Sony are too busy making a lot of good games for their own console.  I thank them for that even more as a ps4 owner.

Well some of us own PS4 and Vita, Sony supporting both would be nice.

Ya know, a Sony machine with more Sony games. Even more ports would be nice if they don't wanna invest in creating games, 3rd parties can do that.

The hardcore handheld dedicated gaming market is dead.  I'm a Vita owner,  and I don't care.  They would be stupid to spend their resources on it when they have the ps4 which actually has a healthy market to take over.

The vita is good for playing ps1 classics and that's what I've used it for.  It was bought for me btw.

I'm not saying spend 20 million dollars creating Vita games. Mojang didn't didn't spend a ton of money bringing Minecraft to Vita.

No, you didn't buy a Vita for PS1 classics. Because nobody buys consoles for backwards compatibility, so I've heard. :-p

The connection between Minecraft sales on vita and other software seems pretty unjustified here outside of trying to paint a bad picture of the device.

MC vita is the best selling version of the game on a tracked gaming device. Better than PS3, PS4, WiiU.

mc isn't as popular in Japan as it is elsewhere, and even then many ppl play it on PC or on mobile.

These sales are in fact really good taking into account vita hardware sales and hencurrent popularity level of MC in Japan.

Keep in mind that the Wii-U version of MC is only out digitally until June 17th later this year, and the PS3/4 versions of the game were a far better deal to buy digitally because if you bought the PS3 version digitally you were able to buy a discounted PS4 copy if you upgraded later on (think it was around €3 I paid for the PS4 version).

I'm just saying tracking of the game is fairly hard on most systems with digital sales having a massive advantage over their retail versions... or in the Wii-U case, there isn't a retail copy just yet.

I don't know if it was the case in Japan, but in the West, if you already had the PS3 ver of Minecraft, you got the Vita as crossbuy free. So in theory that would suggest even lower sales for Vita than PS4?

Good for you buddy, but a lot of bought a Sony product hoping for better.

Bottom line, I'm not thanking Sony for Mojang's work.

Yeah and those people should have known better.  It's only worth it if you're into Japanese games.

I'm thanking Sony and mojang.  Mojang for agreeing to put it on vita and Sony for approaching them.  High fives all round.

Don't get me wrong, Some of the Vita support was pretty good by Sony.

I think they made some bad bets by getting behind Borderlands 2 and Resident Evil Revelations 2 on Vita. Instead of funding those, why not fund a Gran Turismo 6 port?

Those PS2 ports are nice, but not much boast about given performance issues (Jak and Daxter Colelction is garbage nearing unplayable). A lot of the indie stuff is underhwleming. Some of the library was Sony trying to find an answer to losing Monster Hunter.

Frankly, if the Vita just had a few more marquee titles and if they did a better job on PS2 ports it would be easier to recommend a Vita.

I agree. It's a shame that the survey asking if people were interested in Gran Turismo Vita never materialized in an actual game. I also agree that Sony could've funded more 3rd party games. If not AAA then AA games like Daxter on PSP that sold 4.2 mill.

I guess they realized pretty quickly that the growing popularity of smartphone gaming (with its free games) made it impossible to make profits on handheld games without franchises like Pokémon, Super Mario, Monster Hunter, Animal Crossing and Yokai Watch. Even the 3DS that HAD those 5 franchises hardly made a profit for Nintendo.

This is pretty much it. The market completely vanished in barely a generation.

Sony realised in the first year when the likes of uncharted, little big planet, and so forth weren't shifting in volume (along with need for speed, Assassins Creed etc as big third party titles) that it was a no go.

The only reason tearaway and killzone mercenary made it out in 2013 was they were too fast along to cancel.

The difference between Nintendo and Sony with this was Sony cut their losses instantly while Nintendo threw everything at the 3DS. It doesn't look like Sony ever sold the Vita at a loss, and they have shifted an awful lot of software per system, and lots of 3rd party theyve had no investment in meaning its been pure revenue for them. It really would be interesting to see which how close Vita's profit has been to Nintendo's. Not taking a loss on hardware, not funding software, very limited marketing and memory cards etc mean it might not have been the absolute failure to sony that many view it to be.
