Forums - Sony Discussion - What if MGS4 and GT5 P bombs.?

Noobie said:

So far all the discussion on the Sony forum is regarding how good MGS 4 and GT5 P is going to be... and nobody try to remember the past trend... apart from few partial hits like DMC4 and (i don't remember any other) :), all the games have mostly bombed on PS3

So to cut the long story short.. i would say there is a reasonable chance that MGS4 and GT5 P bombs... So far PS3 has no million seller on day 1. and i m not sure if it will have 1 game like this in this yr atleast.

So there are 2 question wot amount of sales will determine that the MGS4 or GT5 P is a success or a bomb..

i think for GT5 P anything below 500k on week one in each Europe and NA is going to classify it as a bombed

For MGS4 i think anything below750k on week one in each Europe and NA and 400k for Jap is going to classify it as a bombed...

Second question is wot is percentage chances of each of these games to get bombed again on PS3..

I would say there is a reasonable chance like 35% for them to get bombed...

So wot u say.?

Well first and foremost, GT5P has already sold over 1 million pre-orders, so no it will not "bomb", secondly, the MGS4 special edition PS3 has sold old in Japan, so no it will not "bomb"

Thirdly, ARE YOU F*CKING SERIOUS? 500K in one week is "bombing" for GT5P? 750k in one week is "bombing" for MGS4? Dude, that means pretty much every game in history "bombed". You really need to rethink your sales figures buddy, because most games are lucky if they get 250k in 1 week.

So "wot" I say? You're an idiot!

 How many units was the production run of that special edition though?  It's all well and good for MGS 4 that it sold out, but it doesn't tell us anything meaningful if we don't know the numbers.

 On topic:  Personally, I see very little chance of either game bombing in any absolute sense, if only because of franchises they belong to.  However, I agree with the posts talking about bombing relative to expectations.   If Halo 3 had flatlined at 3 million it would probably have been considered a failure, despite the fact that maybe 1 in a couple hundred games ever gets to 3 million.

WOT IF THE WORLD STARTS ROTATING THE OTHER DIRECTION!? Then what will you people who claim that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west say? Personally, I think theres a 38.980% chance that this will happen in the near future.

Wot the hell am I talking about? Well i've seen toys that spin clockwise then turn around right away and spin counter clockwise, so I am going to go ahead and apply it to the earth as well.
Wot you gunna do about it bitches?

This is what they call an epic failure topic. It's just flaming towards the other console. Get your facts straight. GT 5: Prologue allready has 1 million pre-orders in Europe only. Why? Because people know GT and they have high expectations that the game will do what they wished for. They are dedicated fans.

MGS? Same story, maybe harder to get the 1st million than GT, but it will get there. People know they are in for. These two titles gonna bring some highlights in PS3 software sales. I can not say that it will bring up the consolesales, but at least now there are titles coming that people are waiting for.

I think that GT:P is already a success with only the preorders it got in the EU.

And if anyone thinks that the hype of MGS4 is high now, wait until the adverts begin and the 80GB PS3 makes a comeback.

As long as it remains bundled I see the bundle taking 50-60% of the PS3 total sales per week. That means 60-100K per week, sustained....

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

if ps3 owners won't buy mgs4 or gt5
then what the hell do they want?

Maybe they're waiting for Killzone 2 to come out in 2009.
