Forums - Sony Discussion - Does Naughty Dog think we are children?

Now an estimated 4 hours into the story, I think it is quite an insultment how incompetent gamers Naughty Dog thinks we are. The game is giving me the most obvious hints all the time even with GAME HINTS TURNED OFF. After so many hours it still says to me with big letters on the screen that I need to cover to recover health, how to progress through the level and that I have to knock-out enemies while in high grass. Despite the linearity of the game, it still says NO YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY. Why is Naughty Dog so afraid to lose players when they have to point things out for themselves to solve puzzels?

It is indeed an insultment.

Whenever I see those sort of things in games, I always suspect the developers trying to bring in new people and preventing them from getting frustrated because they're new to the franchise.

This phenomenon ruined GTA for me.

Finally somebody with some common sense!

This is modern gaming and one of the biggest offenders is Naughty Dog who took a classic challenging game, Tomb Raider, and turned it into an interactive movie for children.

These types of games are so damn insulting to players' intelligence. I understand that you can be wowed by them for a while due to the beautiful Hollywood presentation, but I just don't understand how any adult can enjoy this brainless hand holding in the long run.

To be fair if they ever visited VGC or any other gaming forums I wouldn't blame them for thinking that were children

It's not that they think we're children, they just think that some of us are stupid hence all the directions and hand holding. Considering that coffee has a warning label on it saying it's hot, I guess we're kinda stupid.

I can just simply ignore them. It's not like they're shoving it to your face every time. I've experienced it quite a lot because I kept on using Photo mode(already more than 8 hours in and I'm still in Chapter 1) and ignoring the objectives lol.

I'm no lawyer but I think those labels are to help protect against lawsuits.

To also state the obvious to protect people from themselves. Anyway, people shouldn't be able to sue because they ignore common sense.

Well most the hints are in the dialogue spoken between the characters. That's probably all that's needed. Though funnily enough I've been lost as to where to jump a few times and had to use a hint cause i couldnt remember where i was meant to go xD
