Forums - General Discussion - Ivy League Economist Interrogated For Writing Math Equations On Airplane

LMAO!!

An economics professor at the University of Pennsylvania was profiled and interrogated this week while sitting on the tarmac on an American Airlines flight to Syracuse...all because his seatmate became concerned about the "foreign lettering" he'd been scribbling on paper next to her. That foreign lettering, it turns out, was math.

"They ask me about my neighbor," he wrote in a post on Facebook. "I tell them I noticed nothing strange. They tell me she thought I was a terrorist because I was writing strange things on a pad of paper. I laugh. I bring them back to the plane. I showed them my math."

And if it was foreign Lettering, that must mean he is a terrorist! Duh! Because terrorists blow up planes with magic foreign letters. I'm guessing his skin was a different colour than hers too?

Some People with their fear of anything different and massive generalisations across everything are becoming so stupid. Our species is doomed because these people are taking over.

The most powerful force on the planet... MATH.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

The paranoia level is just getting ridiculous now. There is more chance of being in a car crash than have a terrorist hijack the plane you just happen to be on.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

This woman was pretty stupid, yes, couldn't even tell numbers from letters.

I'd be worried too if I'd suddenly see an economist using actual math.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

That's it, I'm moving to Mars. The Earth is doomed.

Lmao

Note that complex math actually uses a lot of letters namely from greek alphabet, but you can tell when math is math, and when it is another language.
