Forums - PC Discussion - GTX 1080 unveiled; 9 teraflops

Perhaps I gift my GTX970 to my brother (he still uses a GTX650 Ti) and get a GTX1070.

That should be a huge upgrade for him (1 GB -> 3.5 GB VRAM, 200% - 300% more speed) and a good upgrade for me (3.5 -> 8 GB VRAM, ~50% more speed).

600$? really? Also this thing will cost at least 700€ here in europe. I feel like PC gaming isnt afrordable anymore, i remember when you could have a GTX 280 for something like 300-350€, not 600€.

A Ferrari costs 1 million dollars. I feel like cars aren't affordable anymore.

The GTX 280 started with an RRP of 550 €:

Its price only fell very fast because AMD started a price war with its HD4800-series. These low 280 prices were an exeption, not a rule.

The 280's glorious predecessor, the 8800 GTX also started at 600 €... and was worth every penny.

And due to Nvidia's announcement it will be a great time next month to get good bargains for GTX970 and GTX980 cards and similar AMD cards (new ones as well as used ones), which are all much faster than the available consoles and will have considerable price drops.

So PC gaming gets more affordable again.

Iffy on the price but it's already a jump from my current card anyway, though I'll still be waiting till at least next year to see what else is to come out and then create a new spec by then, hopefully with a 1440p monitor. Don't know why we're talking about console power and all that (despite hopes and dreams).

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I'm iffy on the price for different reasons. It seems too cheap considering how much more powerful it may be compared to a 980ti. There could be a problem with it.

I will get it if it clears two checkpoints. 15% stronger on base clock than my OC 980ti. And 1080ti being too far away.

It's likely to be £600 for a 1080 which isn't really all that cheap for me, something around £3-400 is ideal for me, though I won't be settling for a 1870 just like I didn't settle for a 960-970 and just went for a 980.

I just hope it actually brings really good performance around the clock.

I'll hold out for a while longer, but it's getting tempting :-C

AMD didnt start a price war, they were more competive and could offer the same cheaper. Even the 980ti or gtx 980 are still 500€ to this day. I remember GTX8800s and Ultras dropped in price when the 200 series came out. Yes this new 1080 card will come out now, but look how gtx 980 and everything above are priced.

The gtx 8800 wasnt worth to pay the same price of a launch PS3 with PS2 BC imo.

And since when has Nvidia locked their top of the line gaming graphicscards behind 1000-2000$ like they do now for the titans? The GTX290 cost only something like 500€ back then.

And its not just graphicscards, but cpus too. I remember when i bought my original core i7 920 for ~400€ in 2009-2010. 6 years later they still charge the same for a slightier better core i7.

All these prices today are a rip off, it shows that pc gaming isnt affordable anymore because AMD cant compete. The PS4K is now a better alternative than pc gaming, and a better competion than AMD is to Nvidia and Intel in the PC space.

270X here :{

I didnt know that ferrari charged the same prices for their top of the line cars like toyota and VW 6 years ago?
