Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have you ever lost and gained back your gaming mojo?

I got tired of gaming in the 6th gen and thought I'd grown out of it for a while, until the Wii brought me back.

I'm pretty close to dropping out again at the moment; this generation just feels so stagnant and uninteresting compared to last gen. For the first time in a decade, there's pretty much nothing I'm really looking forward to.

Spent a lot of time in the late 00s-early 10s playing mostly MMOs and online FPSes and not much else. They were fun but I didn't get a lot done and I had a backlog that was increasingly piling up too which now I'm trying to clear.

I actually just made a video about this not too long ago. I sort of played games but never had that passion for them that i had back in high school.

Back in High School i lived and breathed Call of Duty: Black Ops, NBA 2K, and Gears of War. Mainly Black Ops though as i tried for high round challenges on zombies and was part of a clan and what not for multiplayer. It translated over until about halfway through Black Ops' 2 life cycle, then out of nowhere there was no purpose for playing games anymore. I had all of the friends and all of the games, and they didn't get in the way of my job or anything....the interest, or "Mojo" just wasn't there anymore. I had games that i had fun with, sure, but i lacked that motivation to really invest and "Get gud" in games.

Just recently i bought Battlefield: Hardline....and despite hearing absolutely terrible things about it. I'm starting to get that old feeling back. The investment and passion for it i guess you could say. The Mojo. I'm getting rather good at it too, almost always finishing near the top.

Who knows? Maybe it's just a phase. Maybe it's the brains way of telling us that we are burnt out? Who knows? lol

I'm still fairly new. I hope nobody flogs me for not being able to hide my links behind text quite yet. But if you have time, check out my YouTube Channel!!!

I lost interest in gaming near the end of the 7th gen, but then it all came back, and continues to grow by the start of the 8th gen.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

just gotta find the right game to reignite it.

I was feeling out of gaming and then threw in some classics as well as tried Dragon's Dogma recently and suddenly I'm back in it. Gotta experiment with genres and not be afraid of trying old and new things

I find the people who get 'stale' with gaming are those who tend to specifically only try a certain genre

I'm in a relatively low mojo state right now. I still play, but nothing is really exciting me. I'm even not getting UC4 day 1. I started Playing Yakuza 4, and I really like that it's voice work is the original japanese with English subtitles, but the gameplay and the fact that half the conversations are text only is making me leave it on the shelf.

I need to get into MGSV though. I haven't started it yet, but what's putting me off is the whole forced PvP thing. But I hear if I DC from the internet before booting the game up then I won't get invaded. But it's a minor annoyance to have to do that.

I expect Mass effect Andromeda will get my juices flowing again. And announcement of Valkyria Chronicles 3 and 3 HD release on PS4 would get me excited too.

I tend to go through cycles of mostly getting screen entertainment from TV and movies, then getting it from games. The advantage with TV and movies is that I can enjoy that with my wife, games not so much.

I've been feeling that way for months lately. Haven't played anything substantial since Christmas. Just the thought of picking up a controller makes me feel tired.

Lately I just prefer relaxing looking at stuff in my phone or watching a movie. Games have taken a huge backseat for me recently and I'm not sure why.

Apart from vacations, I have never had a month with no gaming since 1992 and my gaming "mojo" has been alive and kicking, I do find social- and family matters more important but my free time is filled with what I want, games :)

yeah, i think my systems collected dust for the majority of late 2014 through early/mid 2015. I had a lot of free time then and I guess I tired myself out from gaming too much.

Then I bought a PS4 for a particular game (I forgot which) and I slowly gained back my gaming mojo. My backlog has grown immensely since though.

I only loose my mojo when bad things happen in my life or when my health is not right...
