Franchises don't kill the franchise, bad/average gameplay kills franchises. If the next Star Fox is amazing, it will sell alot. If it is dismal/average, it won't sell alot. Whether Nintendo has enough faith in their developers to make a good Star Fox game is the question really. Their track record for Star Fox has not been great for the last few generations.
The game is great and those who played the SNES and 64 versions like myself like Zero. I don't care what Metacritic says. Its a fun game worthy of a good sequal.
Not really. I remember when Star Fox 64 3D (horrible name btw ) launched Miyamoto said they would only continue investing on the franchise if it sold well. Now... SF643D sold about 900k, and they still made Star Fox 0; so I guess SF0 only needs to sell about 1m to guarantee a new entry in the next 3-5 years.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
Probably not, but it gave it one hell of a coma.
And good. Let's stop rewarding poo poo.

The thing is that the series had consistently declined after SF64. Star Fox 64 (1997)-4.03 million Adventures (2002)-1.87 million Assault (2005)-1.08 million Command (2006)-0.54 million Each entry after SF64 did roughly half as well as the previous which caused Nintendo to put the series on hiatus. If Star Fox Zero doesnt see a notable gain over the last couple installments than it is very likely that Nintendo will have very little interest in continuing the franchise. Maybe they will give it one more shot, but if the next one doesnt give the series a big boost than it will probably be done for good or at least have another decade long hiatus. |
What do you mean the thing is? That's all the Fire Emblem series has done too since before Awakening, was decline and decline after each entry. So not sure what that comparison does.

It's not totally over yet but if the next one is a dud then there's probably no turning back for the franchise ...
They released Star Fox Assault so Nintendo is definitely willing to test out their franchises more than anyone thinks ...
As long as fox is in smash there is life in the franchise

More than half of the sales are in North America. In EU & Japan there is little interest in Star Fox.
I started more or less as a tech demo 23 years ago and as such it was interesting. Maybe if the next game is VR/AR-online-multiplayer-something it could be interesting again.
