As for a worst time to be a Nintendo home console fan -- that would actually be around 1999-2000 with the N64.

N64 sales had fallen off a cliff. Mario, Zelda, and Goldeneye were there, but really all N64 games were EXTREMELY expensive and there were long droughts of 1st party releases. Playstation had the N64 totally outnumbered with total number of quality releases overall and a softer price point for games. There was more competition coming in the way of Sega, Xbox, and PC as well. Things were really really grim - we had never seen Nintendo reinvent itself before.

Today has many similarities, but this time we know Ninty is capable of really turning things around if they want to badly enough.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I can't speak about now, as I'm no longer a Nintendo fan, but this is the reason I switched:

Denial, anger, depression, and acceptance are all stages you experience when you end a relationship.

Yes, when you knew months/years ago that a dark era approaches and despite warning everyone, people decides to laugh at you, call you hater and ignore the facts.

But, now that they have crash with reality, it's funny to see how they act surprised and even has the dare to rant, despite being warned a lot of time ago.

What if you always double dipped and two relationships!

they were posting annual profits averaging about $1 billion in the N64/GC era, financially they were doing far from bad.

I gues some people only believe what fits their agenda.

Geez, this ain't politics or anything, man.  I could go into opportunity costs and all that, but the real point I was trying to make is that they've had what we'll call "less popular" hardware in the past.  Periods where their products didn't sell what they expected.

The last years of the N64 were much worse.

Eh not really.

1999 -Donkey Kong 64, Jet Force Gemini, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap, Ogre Battle 64, NBA Courtside 2, Griffey Slugfest

2000 - Zelda: Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Tooie, Ridge Racer 64, Excitebike 64, Mario Tennis, Kirby 64, Starcraft 64

2001- Conker's Bad Fur Day, Paper Mario

2001 was bad, but 2001 also had both the GBA and GCN launches, so kinda hard to say that was a bad time for Nintendo fans.

I'd say '99 was a bit of a weak year, but 2000 was outstanding, barring Nintendo's bizarre decision to not bring Sin & Punishment to the West.

And compared to Wii U, we have Star Fox Zero and Paper Mario Sticker Star 2. Lol, what a joke.

You're leaving out Tokyo Mirage Sessions. And unless we see more, is it really time to assume what Color Splash could end up being? I'm not saying three games is any better, but at this point, Nintendo, even if they could hire thousands of people to work on development right now, has already had a heavy burden of carrying both 3DS and Wii U, so with NX on the horizon, old and new assets are more likely to be transferred.

No, theres never been a better time. We have 30+ years worth of games to play now...

Positive thinking. I like your style.  I'd actually agree with this above everything else.

I have a billion new games to play and replay, so I'm not hurting. Yes, this next 9 months is going to be slightly rough with not having any new games to play on Nintendo consoles, but that doesn't mean it's "the worst time." Wait until NX launches and then we'll talk.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

Dunno, this is my first Nintendo home console so im pretty bummed. Nintendo handhelds have always been good ( the games not the console itself which i think is tacky) i think the WiiU games are better than anything i played on the wi

You are cheating! It's either one or the other, you can't have both. Fidelity is the key word here.
