Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If Done Right Could Fire Emblem as a Franchise Become Even Bigger than it already is? (Thanks to Mobile)

Easier said than done but yes.

Niche? It stopped being after Blazing Sword, which sold around one million; the problem was that the franchise entered a decline in sales, but it happens to most franchises (it didn't help that finding a Radiant Dawn copy was hard as heck). They revitalized it with Awakening, saving the franchise indeed, but Awakening isn't what made the franchise be mainstream. It just popularized its potential.

And SRPGs overall are niche? There's a lot of unsuccessful or obscure SPRGs, but there are also a lot of successful ones.

Overall i think it is niche. Maybe not as much as other specific genres but other than FE and FF tatics what other srpgs do over 1mil? In japan it might not be as much but in the west i think it really is. You can prove me wrong though (if im wrong.  :p)

Not with this rampant censorship, the hardcore fans will leave it behind and will cause the ultimate dismess in the end of the day

That didnt affect Fate sales in the west in the slightest

You mean the fanbase that existed before Awakening? When the franchise had little fanservice in it, those fans? Or do you mean the casual fans that jumped on awakening?

On top of my head I can think of Ogre/Tactics Ogre, Advance Wars, The Banner Saga, Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea as successful SPRGs (though not sure if Ogre and Disgaea broke a million units sold).

Disgaea most likely did with the various releases (At least the first one). Ogre cannot say. Valkyria Chronicles with the PC version for sure. Same with the banner saga.

Tbh i dont know.

I don't think it will become FF big. But it seems to be a portable series. To be fair though, i don't think mobile will help it much. Its a hardcore game, not a casual one. I can't see it appealing to the casual masses.

Ironically the main reason FE became popular as it is today is because casuals my friend

I thought Smash Bros made Fire Emblem mainstream??

You literally just listed off a bunch of niche games.
