Wow Kimmel really should have done his research before touching on climate change. He sounds so ignorant to me here.

Yes anthropogenic carbon emissions are warming the planet, and as a result crop yields are increasing and the world is generally becoming a greener, more habitable place.

We can adapt to the slowly rising sea levels and the so called 'tipping point' is just a theory at this point.

The west is decarbonising and the developing world is producing more every year. Therefore to reduce carbon emissions worldwide is to force hundreds of millions in the developing world to die unnecessarily. It would also 'brown' the world and reduce crop yields making it even harder for the poor to survive.

Killing millions out of ignorance is only slightly better than outright murdering them.

Have you any peer-reviewed scientific research to support your claims?

Yup heaps. Use google scholar.

When I was at school Scientists said we would have another ice age by now...

Scientists are fickle.

Climate change is real. It always has been, its always been here. Medieval Europe was warm from 1000 to 1200, this was followed by a mini ice age from 1500 to 1700. Must have been all those trucks and aerosols the Tudor used.

I agree. Scientists are fickle. There is good science and there is bad science. Lots of scientisits are driven by motives other than curisioty and the betterment of our world. To take any scientist word on anything without questioning, even if we don't possess enough knowledge, is borderline insainity (isn't that how religions work?)

Weren't there enough publication and studies before the world-wide introduction of Tamiflu? Years later, after billions were spent to stock pharmacies with the useless drug, the company that made it apologized for legally misleading the public with their scientific research.

There are journals that publish science and research and on the other hand, there is a different kind of science that teaches us on how to critically review these journals and the science they introduce to us.

I am not questioning the integrity of all scientists, but to put them on a pedestal is too god damin naive. To say that they studied for years and I should take their word on whatever subject I am weak at is also stupid.

That's my problem with the video in the OP, I don't want to even discuss climate change, but Jimmy Kimmel is annoying and insulting. He might as well replace these scientists with priests and Imams preaaching religions and it would be just as ridiculous.

Can you provide a source for the following claim?: "anthropogenic carbon emissions are warming the planet and as a result crop yields are increasing and the world is generally becoming a greener, more habitable place."

Man I've had a couple of beers and was feeling lazy and hoped you'd look it up yourself.

Here's a couple that I read back when I was really into the climate change thing:

Greening:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/grl.50563/abstract

Rice crops:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gcb.12047/abstract

Basically farmers would have to change the time of year they plant their crops and (if possible) move to higher altitudes to mitigate the effect of the heat on their crops, but if they do that then they are seeing better yields due to what they call the 'Co2 fertilisation effect'.

I only read studies based on observations btw. The stuff I've read about climate change reducing crops all seems to be based on computer models. Computer models are almost always wrong as far as I can tell.

There's more out there but you can find them for yourself if you're that interested. Apart from the dangers of demonising carbon on those in the developing world, this subject doesn't really interest me anymore.

When it comes to climate change my view is similar to my view of religion.  its an arrogance of man that we believe in a god and that we belive we can control the climate.

I'll give them a watch after the footy though....

The evidence says that man can have a profound effect on the natural world. It was man that did this:

That is a sad picture, but it's a bit misleading since it gives the picture that forests have been reduced to a fraction while in fact it's only talking about old forests that have been reduced. In place of old forests now are modern forests.

Scientists said there would be another ice age ?

First of all why do people think that scientist are like this uniform mass of people all saying the same thing ?

Scientists are  hundreds of thousands more or less clever people all with their own unique opinion. And this battle of ideas results in progress. Scientists are fickle because our knowledge and the facts are growing. And thus their theories and predicitons constantly change.

Some Scientists are retards and often media is twisting words of scientists to get a more sensational headline. I always check the source of any science article. As often those articles are utter bullshit.

However the truth is being uncovered slowly and they can reach a consensus in things. The ice age thing I hear for the first time and I am sure some (maybe even just one small group of scientists had a theory) Doubt that alot of scientists agreed on that.

Climate Change happened in the past. However based on observation and measurements most scientists agree that there is a measurable impact caused by human technology and the changes we recorded in the last years  and decades are drastic.

Fact is that scientists are the reason why we have modern medicine, technology and all our comfort.

Without the scientific basis there would be no way any of our life could work as we need working theories and knowledge to build up on it and engineer things.

The fact is that there is more and more CO2 in the atmosphere and we are slowly reaching the CO2 levels of the past. Currently we are in an iceage (it means there is Ice on the surface of the earth) However this is changing fast and without surface Ice we will have drastically higher sea levels.

I understand people are often overwhelmed actually getting to the core of the information and are often not properly knowledgeable and can not discern proper science from nut jobs which is why science has such a  bad reputation.

The thing is our economy our whole lifestyle is dependant on all those guys and funnily enough they have a very bad reputation as a group because the majority of people simply do not understand the scientific process.

A very interesting article, I must say. Its scope is limited however to what it describes as "warm, arid regions" and I would guess not all of the world is "warm and arid". Also, I don't see any mention of impact on global crop yields in this article or impact on farming industries around the world.

For everyone's sake, I hope potential crop loss will be outpaced by potential crop increases due to increasing average global temperatures.

Plants like warmer temperatures, and the places that are most heating up are the frozen ones.  So now those frozen places (some of them at least) are more viable for plants).  Plants also like CO2.  It's practically common sense that right now, it's good for plants.

Bad for polar bears, good for plants in the short term.  Long term could easily be a different story.

Plants also like water and water tends to evaporate away quicker as temperature increases. Sure plants like CO2 but they also dislike drought.

I don't understand the Republican view of climate change.

"It's a conspiracy, and these scientists are being paid off"  - You're trying to tell me that some no name paying off all these scientists?  All this in the face of the biggest industry on the planet?  The oil industry is gigantic.  7 out of the top 10 biggest companies are oil companies.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_companies_by_revenue

Something about God.  - Really?  God says the gasses you put up into the atmosphere are absolutely okay.  Even the poisonous gasses.  Just carry on.

I'm sure there's lots of other ones.

It's really just corporations and the like of the Koch brothers, who happen to own a bunch of energy companies, using the uneducated and the faith base to cause controversy so they will not get regulations on their industry.

It’s sort of like how the Kings of old would use the church and the faithful say ‘God has given them a divine right to rule and you are bad if you question it and against God.’  It’s the same thing in a different package.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
