Forums - Politics Discussion - Scientists on Climate Change: "Why would we f@ck with you!?"

Is this a real question? Why would a researcher seek out specific findings or solutions for problems? I mean, they're so entirely depedent on big donors and groups for their money to keep researching, so to pretend like they don't have an agenda is absurd.

Surely you believe that suspicion alone is not enough to prove an agenda?

Everyone in the field has a self serving agenda, it's just up to you to see which study or report has enough merit and observable facts.

To continue to get funding for research... obviously.

When I was at school Scientists said we would have another ice age by now...

Scientists are fickle.

Climate change is real. It always has been, its always been here. Medieval Europe was warm from 1000 to 1200, this was followed by a mini ice age from 1500 to 1700. Must have been all those trucks and aerosols the Tudor used.

Exactly.

Climate change or should we say weather change is a cycle , between the 17th century and early 19th century the river thames used to have frost fairs.

Antartica ice is getting bigger not smaller. Climate change as they like to call it is one big con job people are making some big money out of it. Companies that sell renewable energy devices such as windturbines which are not only an eyesore but have been proven to be garbage are making big money then we got the Government adding green tax this etc.

Its a con job plain and simple.

Are there really people who deny climate change?

Obviously. More than half the world deny reason to live by set of rules written by other men.

The US really needs to deal with this fact that science has become bi-partisan. This isn't really true in Europe. Both Left and Right-wing parties generally have the same attitude to scientists.
It really doesn't help when obvious Left wing people get involved with it though. Kimmel's doing more harm than good. As was Gore.

Its such a joke that this is even still up for debate, but I guess it shouldn't surprise me, there is always gonna be ignorant people around.

Bold: NO! Different! Very, Very different!

Climate Change:
Is it real? Yes
Do humans have a noticeable, reliable and provable impact on it? Errmm maybe, kind of, hard to say with so many different studies proving and disproving each other.
Should we take steps for cleaner air, recycle more and find renewable energies that don't rely on finite resources? YES, obviously YES!
Will Climate change occur even without the existence of humans? YES! climate change is a natural part of earths ecosystem and is required to keep balance for all of it inhabited species, even if it means the extinction of some in favor of others.
Will it happen as fast without humans? See answer to if humans have an impact.
Can humans reverse Climate change? Yes, but we need to learn how to properly terraform a planet and fully control it's weather and climate first.

This.

When it comes to climate change my view is similar to my view of religion.  its an arrogance of man that we believe in a god and that we belive we can control the climate.

I'll give them a watch after the footy though....

Comparing science to religion is a mistake.  Religion operates in a world without material proof.  Science proudly burdens itself with verifiy data and testing it over and over before something can legitimately be called a theory.

Of course climate change has been happening for all of history. But this is different, obviously different.

Most people can tell you that C02 levels aren't the only thing that cause climate change, but they have been closesly tied with the Earths climate for as long as we can meassure. C02 levels naturally rise and fall over time in a cyclical fashion, which is caused by, and helps accelerate, changes in the Earths temperature. There is a pretty interesting process to this. But it's rather complicated to explain, and isn't really necessary to understand the point here.

So, it's easy for someone to say "this happens naturally, so we aren't doing anything." The issue with that, is there are certain rules here that aren't been followed. Though there are occasionally spikes and dips in C02 levels (and surface temperature), there is normally a pretty stable basement, and ceiling for C02 levels. With the bottom being around 180 ppm (parts per million) and the ceiling being about 300 ppm.

We are currently at about 400 ppm.

So yes, the Earth does naturally warm and cool, C02 levels also naturally fluctuate. But, going by the Earths natural cycle...the Earth should be getting colder, not warmer.

This.

"Do Humans have a noticeable, reliable and provable impact on it"

Yes.

Thats basically what this intire debate is about.

97% of enviromental scientists think so.

the last 3% either arnt 100% sure, or are payed to conclude whatever whoever payed for their studies, want them to say.

"errmm maybe, kind of, hard to say with so many different studies proving and disproving each other."

Not really? if 97% of scientists think its that way, it probably is? and people that go "maybe" are just willfully ignoreing the seemingly obvious?
