Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Everything We Know About Nintendo NX

A Gafer posted this so I thought it would make for an interesting discussion.

With mod permission, I decided to revive my NX facts thread from before which you can see HERE with the previous 24 facts, this time here adding the newest stuff from the meeting and other sources from the past week.

PLEASE READ ModBot's closing post from the last thread so we don't risk getting this thread closed as well:

It's best that if you want to see the previous 24 facts, please click on the link above in the first paragraph to look back on them. It's too much I think now to repost them all here personally (I was only able to fit 18 of them in the OP of the first thread!).

Here are the newest facts that have come out since the original thread was closed, in no particular order:

1. NX will launch globally in March 2017. (Source)

We will take another opportunity prior to the release to discuss the features and price of the NX, as well as the software lineup for launch."

2. The Legend of Zelda for Wii U will also release on NX, will launch simultaneously with the Wii U version in 2017. Will also be the focus at E3 2016. (Source)

4. The Wii U version of the new The Legend of Zelda will also be the ONLY playable game from Nintendo at E3 to allow "complete immersion". (Source)

E3: Nintendo changes its approach to the show every year. This June, Nintendo will focus its attentions on the upcoming game in The Legend of Zelda series. The Wii U version of the game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, and it will be the only playable game Nintendo presents at the show, in order to provide attendees a complete immersion. Additional information about Nintendo’s E3 plans will be announced in the future.

5. Koei Tecmo has added NX to their list of supported platforms. (Source)

7. Kimishima tells Nikkei that NX is not merely the successor to the "handheld 3DS or stationary console Wii U" and that it's "been made with a new way of thinking". (Source, via Kotaku)

This will be hardware that’s been made with a new way of thinking. I’d like to announce more particulars regarding its specs and how it works another time this year.”

8. Kimishima clarifies that the reason NX is releasing after the holiday season is because they want software to be ready for launch, and also to continuously release titles after launch. (Source (Q&A 5))

You are correct about needing a solid lineup of software. One of the reasons for choosing the launch timing that we did is so that the software lineup will be ready in time for the hardware launch. Not only at launch, but we also need to be able to continuously release titles after launch. We are planning for this to be a platform that consumers can enjoy for a long time."

9. Kimishima also confirms that they do not intend to sell the NX at a loss like they did with Wii U initially. (Source (Q&A 5))

I am assuming that situation will not repeat itself. Selling at a loss at launch would not support the business, so we are keeping that mind in developing NX."

10. Kimishima emphasizes the desire to have a fully realized experience at launch, rather than rush it for the holiday season. (Source (Q&A 8))

We believe that when launching hardware, the amount of quality software for consumers to play that is available at launch is important, and that we ought to determine our launch dates based on this. The fact that consumers spend more money in the holiday season may be a big factor in why launching then is a good way to start. However, our hardware and software business structure does not end in that year. We want consumers to continue to play this game system for many years, so we believe that in the beginning it is most important to make sure that everything is in order at launch. In that sense, our approach is that we should wait until we can provide a fully realized experience rather than rushing to launch in the holiday season, and this approach has not changed."

11. You can use Miitomo as the same user across multiple mobile devices if Miitomo is linked to your Nintendo Account. (Source (under System Options))

A: If you link the application to a Nintendo Account, it's possible to use Miitomo as the same user across multiple devices.

After linking your device to your Nintendo Account, simply select Create/Link a Nintendo Account when you first start Miitomo on any other device to link that device as well.

However, you cannot use the application on multiple devices at the same time.

12. Kimishima says the for dedicated game systems, amount of hardware sold is the most important, and also how a game is played after it is bought is the other most important thing. (Source (Q&A 7-2))

Other than the number purchased, the other important thing is how the game is being played after it has been purchased. I do not mean this in the sense of how the game is rated, but rather that how the game is played connects to the future of the IP. Therefore, we believe that in addition to the number of units purchased, the activity numbers including hardware activity, and how much the game continues to be played are both important factors as well. I think that this is the same for both dedicated video game systems and smart devices."

I think this is good enough to start things off. This makes 36 facts to date if we're keeping count. :P Obviously more will be added as they come. Help is highly encouraged and VERY much appreciated, just like in the first thread! :)

I hope this thread will be helpful in keeping all the info in one place and will provide a good resource for folks.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
