Forums - Movies & TV - My problems with Civil War

So, i saw the movie some days ago and now i would like to discuss my main problem with the movie.

Before i start, i want to say i really enjoyed it. I actually liked the action scenes and the way the plot/heroes were handled.
There are some problems no doubt, but all of them falls between acceptable or at least ignorable, given what the movie gets right.

[Spoilers from now on] There is one think though that really annoyed me and really brought my score down: the lack of consequence.
I mean, Civil War idea is about creating a real fracture inside the avengers, but by the end of the movie my sensation was that very little changed. Not saying someone needed to die, but we needed something more than Cap holding information about Tony's parents.

These are my main points:
- A dozen of powerful characters bring an airport down in their fight, but not one of them gets seriously hurt.
- Rhodes paralysis is dealt as a really trivial thing. He might as well have a flu.
- Rhodes should have died. I mean, come on, that fall...
- Bucky should have died. And i don't say that just because i was getting mad with him and Cap. By the end of the movie he is pretty much dead from a MCU point of view. Lets be honest, he will stay frozen forever and chances are he won't come back in the near future, so why not let Tony kill him and create a real issue between him and Cap?
- Cap should not appear rescuing everyone in the end. Heck, they could even use this whenever needed in the next movies, but the writers should have let those avengers locked until then. It would be another great way to put real weight in Tony/Steve decisions. Flint would lose part of his children childhood and maybe get in a problem with his wife since he vowed he would retire last movie. Wanda could go crazy with
confinement. Natasha and Vision could be haunted by the guilt of helping locking their friends. Hell, an assault to the prision could be the trigger Thunderbolt Ross need.

Instead of that, Captain vaguely definied powers ex-machina.

What do you think?

Imma continue with spoilers:

About the airport fight: I agree quite a bit actually, and what I thought would've been an amazing moment would've been if, when Spider-Man was laying flat on the ground after the air-port fight, he was actually seriously hurt. Like, not mortally wounded, but enough that he'd need quite a while to mend. Just think about it. He's a kid and Tony brought him into battle. Tony would've felt guilty for this, and so would Cap. It would've been a very powerful moment emotionally.

>MCU belongs to Disney
>You expected some "consequence"

Obviously with disney everything ends well and no one dies :)

Not too different from most comic books.

Doesn't cap die on the comics?

Cap doens't die. The thing is. All the issues people have in the movie. Can be asnwered later on. I had a serious problem with Scott being used as Antman. And not Pym. But the movie answered why this happened. So I didn't need to complain. They probbaly will use all the characters for fighting Thanos, in the future movies. That's why no one's died. And left in the cold :P.

vision was useless.
cap stopping a helicopter and a flying ironman with one hand, how he do that
cap beating ironman was pis

Sebastian Stan (Bucky) has a 10 film contract with Marvel. He will definitely be back. Antman has a sequel to star in, he couldn't be kept locked up until the end.

I get ya, consequences but the whole thing was about their consequences already, doing what they do without ramifications, ignoring the fact if they didn't nothing it would be worse.

To answer some of your points, Cap only new (technically) that Hydra killed Iron Man's parents due to the conversation he had with Armin Zola, he didn't know directly that Bucky was involved.

Rhodes did have a big injury, not being able to walk and nearly dieing is a big thing. Black Goliath died at the hands of Thor bot in actual Civil War, he won't be back ever (not big enough of a character). Yet his fall is protected by his suit, it would contain most of the fall's impact.

Cap can do a lot and he only needed to counter the lift of that helicopter, okay so might not have happened in reality but you could see he was struggling.

Of course as a fanboy I have bigger issues of why Tony decided the death of 1 person was a concern suddenly (he happened to be american too) while saying this in front of Wanda who's brother died (in reality at his hands also if you take his 'guilt' in it all).

Hmm, pie.

I made a thread earlier in which many of the problems are addressed:
