If your makeing a new console... why wouldnt you use the newest and most advanced tech you can get your hands on?

You're asking the people who used PowerPC for a gaming console in 2012.

Wasn't it Miyamoto who famously said - and I quote - "New hardware is bad and buggy, let's use that old calculator over there!"

Are you saying prepair to be disappointed? ; _ ;

Maybe your right, I shouldnt get my hopes up to high.

Honestly though if they just get the "unified platform" idea right (cartridges that run on both portable handheld, and the homeconsole), I would be happy.

Reguardless of what hardware they put inside the system.

Is this sarcasm? Sorry my detector is broken.

Using a certain chip design has no correlation with power. All we know is that the console will probably be very power efficient but Polaris does not mean "faster than any last gen chip". And while it still may use Jaguar as its CPU that does not mean full compatibility as they will use a different graphics architecture.

Power is not the only thing to sell to hardcore. What Nintendo needs are good relations with 3rd parties and that has yet to be seen. The NX can be as strong as it wants, if it does not have the latest AAA games, hardcores will not buy it.

If Nintendo can somehow suppress their urge to reinvent the wheel yet again and just make a good console that plays both Nintendo and 3rd party games and they stop being a bitch with indies and publishers, then NX could become a success.

It's half and half :)

Do some reading on the Polaris chips. We don't know if it's a 10 or 11, either way. There is still a spec range for those chips, so unless Nintendo has them custom ordered. Which they likely will. The cheaper one is still a fairly big step up in terms of specs. Put that in a console, it's going to look damn impressive. This is also dependant on how the OS is handled and it's resources.

I just want to double check, but you know Polaris is a GPU right? It's likely that Nintendo will have an APU based on the architecture. Which would only be logical. Of course as some have stated. The Zen APU wouldn't be a bad way to go either.

If it's the "latest" 14nm Polaris chips. That thing will be a BEAST on a console. It'll literally lay the smack down on the Neo-PS4 which is apparently using an upgraded Jaguar based chipset so games can be fully compatible between the PS4 and Neo-PS4.

This isn't even a competition. It's a slaughter house. If, and a big IF Nintendo is using Polaris.... The NX is a NEXT generation console. Full 9th gen console. In addition to that, it can easily stream 4k at 60fps. So... yeah... graphic whores will be jacking off when this comes out. This isn't a small upgrade like the PS3/360 to the PS4/XBO. This is a generation upgrade as we know it in previous generations.

I'll believe it when I see it. I won't lie, I am a little excited with the possibility. If the NX won't be sold at a lost... The thing will be between $399 to $499... and it's going to sell well with the hardcore. It'll all be dependant on the gimmick, but if they are going this route. I'd expect it will be a normal console with the gimmick being optional. This sounds like an all in bet, much like Sony did with the PS4.

Uhm... Jaguar is a CPU architecture, Polaris is a GPU architecture. It's been speculated the PS4 NEO could also use a Polaris GPU.

Totally different things here.

I just don't think Nintendo is going for a powerful system. Their games don't need it...and their own games will always be their priority. Both for Nintendo and the majority of the fans.

Did I say Polaris was a CPU? :/ It would make more sense for Nintendo to use something better than Jaguar. Which was outdated out the door as far as consoles were concerned.  It's true that it's dependant on a couple of factors and what they are going for. Personally I think using the Zen APU might be the smarter choice, which is dependant on it being ready in time.

I may have gotten a little carried away with that post. I would edit it, but it was fun :)

I think your assesment is made too hastily. First of all just being a Polaris Chips does  not guarantee high performance. It depends on the die surface. A small Polaris Chip will still be weaker then a big last gen Chip.

The amount of Compute Units mainly  determines the speed of the whole system. Also its very likely (actually its pretty much guaranteed) that the PS4 Neo will have a 14nm GPU.  As a Chip of that spec (36 CUS) would be gigantic and hot in a console at 28nm.

Its very likely that AMD continues to produce same sized chip with improved architecture and performance for the PS4 Neo (this might even have been a part of the sales pich of AMD when Sony negotiated the terms.

4k 60 fps is hard even with a high end PC I very much doubt that the NX or PS4 neo will have this as a standard for their games even with 14nm technology as Consoles are like always severly limited through their TDP.

Ofcourse 4k 60fps might be possible for some games on either PS4 Neo or NX but it will be more the exception than the rule and definetly not apply to GTA 6 or Battlefield 6 or similar games. Polaris is pretty mich guaranteed if Nintendo goes with AMD because why would they use last gen technology for their GPU ? Makes zero sence.

Nintendo will have Polaris with slight customized tweaks.

But how big the Chip will be how many Compute units etc is anyones best guess. It could end up a Wii Sized Console with the Power of the Xbox One for all we know. For a Price of 199-249.

Polaris is no guarantee for a strong Console. 4k 60 fps is just not doable in a console sized box with current technology. 4k is a 4 times jump in resolution from Full HD. This will be reserved for the 10nm GPU Console Generation.

No problem. It would seem logical for them to use Zen. If not, they might bolt a Polaris GPU to a Puma+ core.

To be honest, I think Nintendo's 1st party will pretty much be the biggest selling point to everyone. Having better 3rd party games will be great for exclusives and single player experiences, but I doubt any multiplayer game will be any selling point for a Nintendo console.

True. Also if they make a powerful console, but their own games look like WiiU games, third party games would make Nintendo look bad.

Maybe. At least all except for Xenoblade. Xeno X was by far the most impressive offering for Wii U as of now if talking about games overall. Zelda U could beat it, but who knows, and that would be a second most impressive (not ranking, but talking amount of games that look more impressive than third parties) before even getting to third parties (at least the ones that were offered).
