Please note the date and time: it is now official.  Captain America: Civil War has surpassed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in every category.

Here's the breakdown:

Domestic Gross: 347.4M vs 328.4M
Foreign Gross: 706.1M vs 541.8M
Worldwide Total: 1.0535B to 0.8702B.  In the top 25, it is poised to knock the Dark Knight Rises (1.0849B)down a peg and now competes with Iron Man 3's 1.2154B.

But that's not all.  In addition to be a commercial success, it is a critical success as well, killing Batman and Superman faster than you can say "Martha".

Rotten Tomatoes
Tomatometer: 90% vs 27%
Average Critical Review: 7.6/10 vs 4.9/10
Fresh Reviews: 275/307 vs 91/332
Audience Score: 91% vs 67%
Audience Review: 4.4/5 vs 3.6/5

IMDB: 8.4/10 vs 7.1/10
MetaCritic: 75% vs 44%

This is an uncontested smackdown against the biggest heavy hitters of the DCU.  BvS could have great, and indeed it should have, instead it is the latest to showcase how not to make a superhero movie.  The 90's had Batman and Robin.  Then came Catwoman.  This decade it is BvS.

This one is for the tinfoil hatters out there (you know who you are).

This surprised pretty much no one

Pretty expected really

Yeah, I think it's the better movie, and it was better promoted, so I'm not surprised.

Wait there are "I love DC so I hate marvel" and vice versa people???

By framing this discussion as an "us vs. them" and characterizing MCU detractors as haters/fanboys, I think you're starting this thread off on the wrong foot.

no one after seeing BvS reviews and reception.  Last year most were saying BvS had to hit 1B minimum as it seemed to be so huge.  Especially after comic-con most seemed to think it would be the biggest CBM of the year and some were even saying it would challenge Star Wars opening weekend due to the properties involved.  Now obviously after the reviews started coming and even as soon as that second trailer the doubts began and now it has swung to BvS being overshadowed by Deadpool domestically and Civil War both domestically and abroad.

Shocked! I anticipate Civil War easily surpassing a billion WW.

1.3 billion will be my what the hell prediction.

That would mean I'm personally starring in the top 4 highest grossing CBMs ever.  Hell I'm already top 3 may as well just prop up Cap's franchise while I'm at it

92 positive reviews to the 89 of BvS (and BvS has hundreds of more reviews from critics)

94% to the 27% of BvS (and WB owns Rotten Tomatoes----ouch!)

200 million opening weekend to the 170 of BvS (and Civil War didn't even open in North America for its weekend haul)

With a heavy hitter like X-Men: Apocalypse right around the corner, Civil War won't have the lengthy period of zero competition like BvS enjoyed required, but it's a serious blow to the fragile psyches of DC fanboys/Marvel haters.

How do you feel?

You're comparing BvS domestic opening with Cap3 international opening which isn't fair.  So just some info for ya...(all info found on IGN)

BvS opening weekend: Domestically = $166.1M, Internationally = $254M

Cap3 opening weekend: Domestically = TBD, Internationally = $200.2M

So Internationally, BvS beat Cap3, but I'm certain Cap3 will beat it domestically.  I also believe Cap3 will have a more steady success than BvS and outsell it worldwide.

Overall, great start for Cap3.
