Forums - Gaming Discussion - I don't get it how adults can like games with kiddy cartoony look

Well, this has been fun to go through.

I prefer cartoony-looking games over more realistic games mostly because they just look more interesting, colorful, and creative. I deal with realism 24-7, so playing something with more style ans creativity is just more appealing to me. Plus, as someone who loves to draw and design, this sort of stuff is right up my alley.

Though I don't limit myself to just those. I'm fine with anything that is just fun. It is still gameplay > visuals for me.

Also, you'd be surprised what interesting things you can do with a cartoonish look. Games like Conker's Bad Fur Day and Earthbound have childish appearances, but are either the complete opposite, or hide something darker behind that friendly look.

Either way, whatever you think of my likes and preferences, I wouldn't care

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

it's your opinion,.. you are entitled to it.  my opinion is pretty much the exact opposite,.. i love the style in games like rachet and clank but at the same time i can see where you are coming from.

that link takes you to a bunch of japanese games.  to be honest i'm pretty much turned off to these games based mostly on their presentation.  i'm not a fan of the extreemly anime style especially in the way women are represented a shallow, weak, and sexually objectified.

but it's just preference.  it's cool to have to have a difference in preference.  ...but for the record the OP and posts like this:

"I am grownup but I always disliked kiddy games, but I did not own any console as a kid. I am not talkign about rated E games but about visually kiddy games that should only appeal to little kids in a normal world."

..are pretty offensive.  you should have more respect for other peoples opinions if you want anyone to respect your opinion.

Wow this guy is good....he through out the bait to catch some fish and did. In my opinion that was the ONLY purpose of this thread to rile some people up.....because outside of that the thread makes no sense....:-/

Some people never grow up I guess.

The very fact you created this thread speaks volumes.

If you can't comprehend why this style of art direction can appeal to some adults, then you are the problem.

Also, saying things like "I guess people never grow up" means you are at most 20.

Are you related to Shadow the Hedgehog, Dante, Ryuko Matoi, and American Box Art Kirby by any chance?

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

that is a great quote.
