Forums - General Discussion - What's the closest you ever came to dying?

Probably that one time when I was a kid where I put a metal wire on the power outlet, thinking it would start glowing lol. I could've been electrocuted to death, but instead I just burned my hand. Good thing it healed 2 or 3 days after that day.

This is how dumb teenagers can be right after high school graduation. I was in the bed of my buddies truck right after swimming so was still dripping wet. I had my back to the back window. Buddy in passenger seat kept reaching out the window and pinching me. I finally got tired of it as soon as we were pulling off the highway so I turned around to get him back and I fell out the side of the bed and my fiend in the bed with me tried to grab me so it pretty much made me swing under and the right rear tire hit my pelvis and broke it  in five places. I literally saw that mud tire in slow motion come towards my face. After I came to, my friends were running to me as I tried to stand up. I now have plates and screws all in my pelvis and left ankle. I was wheelchair bound for quite some time. That was a miserable time but on the bright side I got a girlfriend out of being wheelchair bound that later became my wife. She was a girl two grades below me that felt bad about what happend so she would come and hang out with me and take me to parties while I was still wheelchair bound. One thing lead to another... Man I love that woman.

My brother was annoyed at me once. I did something good at school... I can't quite remember what. Probably something mediocre.. I was in primary school, elementary school for others.

He got jealous of the attention, pushed me in the lake and I nearly drowned.

Thankfully, I had long hair and my dad just reacted quickly. He pulled my ass out of the lake, by my hair and put me on the bridge... Or whatever we were standing on mid lake. My douche brother had to swap clothes with me. It was perfect punishment. I was obviously soaked from head to toe on the somewhat cold day.

I know you were kids, but um your brother might need some help for almost killing you.

Too late for that. He also used to start fires, capture bugs and watch spiders eat them and wet the bed. In hindsight... My parents were in denial. He is turning 30 this year though and turned out fine.

Thank God.

Wow the whole trifecta huh, it doesn't necessarily mean they will, but that they have chance to.

The closest I ever came to death was getting married. But I'm happily divorced now so freedom is life.

almost drowning. Though not in a pool but in a frozen pond with no adults around. Only a few other kids my age ~9 years old. Thankfully one of them was about 12 and could pull me out.

Home invasion in 2010.

When I was 10, running from a neighbor's house back home during a really bad thunderstorm. Lightning struck about 10 feet away from me. Something made me jump in the air at the time (call it a guardian angel, etc) Might have saved me from getting electrocuted. Yeah, I might have survived on the ground too, had sneakers on, but that was as close a call as I've gotten. I tell everyone that computers behave around me because I have an electrical charge from the incident. (I work in IT and people are baffled that their problems go away just by me being present ;)

Appendicitis, car wreck, and many more.  Technically I probably should be dead right now.

I can think of...3 times were I was either close to dying, or though I was going to die.

1. When I was a baby (less than 6 months old) I got really sick. I had a high feever for like 2 solid weeks. The doctors couldn't figure out why, and actually thought I might have cancer. No medice or anything was working and I just kept getting sicker. Weirdly enough, I just...got better one day. I went from being dangerously sick, to totally fine in a day. No idea why.

2. When I was in highschool, me and a couple of my friends were dicking around in a quarry. I was climbing up a rock wall (you know, like an idiot) and about 3/4 of the way up the rock I was on started to come out of the wall. I managed to scramble to safety before it fell, but I was probably 3-4 seconds from falling 50 feet onto a pile of rocks.

3. A few years ago, I was going out with some friends and decided to take five 200 mg caffeine pills (also like an idiot). For some context, a gram of caffeine is nearly 10 redbulls worth. I had a splitting headache, a stomachache, and my heart was pounding in my chest for a solid 24 hours. I was starving but couldn't eat, and exhausted but couldn't sleep. I honestly probably should have gone to the hosipital.

Edit: I've also been hit by a car, fell into a pile of old barbed wire, fallen out of a tree, nearly been swept away by the tide (which is actually a pretty good story, though I never thought I was going to die), and have been threatend with a knife. I've led a pretty rough and tumble life, and have about a dozen scars to show for it.
