Forums - Nintendo Discussion - After a few days since Nintendo's NX release date/E3 plans, Has your opinion on these plans changed?

Well when we first got the information about the NX releasing globally in March 2017 along with the news that Zelda on the Wii U will be the only game that Nintendo will bring to this years E3 the entire Internet exploded and thought the apocalypse was coming.....

My initial thoughts about the March release wasn't bad so my opinion on this hasn't changed and I don't really mind that they are missing the holiday period of 2016 as :

  • Nintendo enthusiast and core fans will buy the hardware no matter when it releases
  • People buying it for Christmas gifts and parents buying it for kids won't buy it straight at launch anyway
  • 2016 is still fairly early into X1/PS4 lifetime and people will be more likely to be looking for new hardware holiday 2017
  • Building a software library up over the year for its first holiday along with some big hitters releasing holiday 2017 will help push it to the above 2 groups of people

Onto the news about Nintendo only bringing Zelda to be playable at E3 and at that on the Wii U and not the NX version is where I was negative about, When I first read this news it really did confuse me a little. Although I didn't expect the NX to be unveiled at E3 but more so of a Nintendo conference/Direct mid-late may to do this (but this was presuming a holiday 2016 release) then to hit it big with the game announcements for the launch window and along with some big games for the first year of the NX's life cycle and put on a real big show to sell people into the NX and start the hype going then to just find out only Zelda on the Wii U will be playable was disappointing.

Now after a few days I've accepted the E3 plans and it really doesn't bother me as there will be other stuff at Nintendo booths with demo reels for Wii U and 3DS titles and they can still announce new 3DS stuff and maybe a surprise Wii U title, We could also get some snippets of NX info such as  developers confirming titles (very small but still) or a proper name reveal and even the Zelda hype if the playable demo is amazing could get plenty of people talking about Nintendo and the NX before the reveal later in the year to build on it.

Has your initial opinion and reaction to both the NX release date and E3 announcements stayed the same or after a few days of settling down and thinking changed from your original opinion?

If it's building a decent launch titles and a lot of titles througout the year, it will attract the Nintendo fans and the most core gamers. After that, it will be a matter of hardware/3rd parties/advertisement to get regular gamers and families. The handheld part is a bigger mystery for me, we know even less about that.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Being a deprived Zelda fanboy, I don't care about Nintendo's E3 plans being dumb. I just want Zelda.

But yeah, I'm cool with whatever. I never had a problem with the NX's release date either. More time to actually make money so that I can afford it on launch.

bet: lost

I just gotta say, it was said Zelda was going to be the only PLAYABLE game at E3. This doesn't mean it's going to be the only game.

Nope, I still think they are terrible plans. I don't think the March 2017 release date is bad, but instead the lack of NX at E3. That seems bad from a business stand point as it would help build hype for the NX, but also from a personal perspective... I want to know what the NX is already! I don't want to wait any longer and not only will it now be a longer wait to find out what it is but we don't even know how long that wait is going to be?

The suspense is killing us :P

No, if anything now that we know there is no significant news from nintendo coming out at e3 it made me stop caring about them. No more speculation and hype like usual this season. They're losing mindshare fast.

Afterwards I had little reason left to watch E3, and that would still be the case :(.

Doesn't say its the only game on the show floor just that it's the only playable one.

"E3: Nintendo changes its approach to the show every year. This June, Nintendo will focus its attentions on the upcoming game in The Legend of Zelda series. The Wii U version of the game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, and it will be the only playable game Nintendo presents at the show, in order to provide attendees a complete immersion. Additional information about Nintendo's E3 plans will be announced in the future."

Good find, looks like they didn't specify so there's a tiny bit of hope they can have demo booths showing trailers for other games.
