Forums - Gaming Discussion - Do you think Ps4 will surpass Ps2's whopping 155 million consoles sold?

Ps4 will...

Surpass the Ps2, lifetime sales, 150m+ 98 12.76%

Surpass the Ps1, lifetime sales 102m+ 353 45.96%

Surpass the Ps3, lifetime sales 90m+ 179 23.31%

Sell less than 90 million. 138 17.97%

Total:768

PS4 will pass PS2 sales easily. PlayStation Vue and PlayStation VR are going to drive PS4 sales well past anything we have seen a console do before. If the Neo rumors are true, then they are going to go even further beyond PS2 than I initally thought.

Consoles in the traditional sense are dying off. PS4, XBO, and NX are going to become the new standard for home computing in the future. The traditional PC tower is going to be a thing for hardcore gamers and business. The new consoles will replace PC's as people transition to browsing the web and doing other PC like things on their $500 75in 4K TV and their PS4/XBO/NX.

I think PS4 will push close to 300 million units by the time the platform is over, and the transition to PS5 happens. XBO should blaze past 100M in time, the only platform I am not sure of yet is NX, but that will be revieled soon.

Lol nope!

Pocky Lover Boy!

Yes and beyond, consoles circles are a thing of the past. The PS4 and the neo version which both are x86 architecture gurentees long living support even if its just indie games at the very end of the ps4 lifetime. Therefore sales should be a lot higher than previous consoles

I think it's funny how people said the PS4 wouldn't outsell the PS3 before it launched due to consoles dying. The PS4 looks set to smash the PS3 numbers and probably even the PS1 numbers at this rate.

Who said that? I have never read that before, to be honest.

I don't think it will as the generations will become shorter if not disappear at all and there will be no reason to buy a PS4 in a few years if all games are playable on a new console which also offers way better graphics.

Not even close, this won't be a generation like the 7th gen, where two consoles tapered off really slowly and basically moved hardware for a decade. Even with the Wii U doing terribly, handhelds dying off and the Xone doing low moderate numbers, the PS4 has yet to come close to a 20 million year, and won't reach it this year either by the looks of it, while the PS2 had several consecutive 20 million + years.
To think that a peripheral that costs more than the console itself will somehow reinvigorate the market completely is foolish at this point, it sounds like the Kinect argument all over again, and that was about 1/3 of the price at release.
The casual masses won't want to shell out a small fortune for VR and the for enthusiasts (such as myself), there will be alternatives, and the promise of much better hardware to pull it off properly. When the casual consumers do make the jump and prices are more mainstream friendly; Facebook owned Occulus Rift will be a terrifying competitor with the massive influence of their ownership and potential customer base.

So, for me; no, the PS4 won't outsell the PS2, it will have a hard enough time beating the PS1, in my opinion. I honestly don't see how people can still think it will sell 155 million+ units, there is nothing to suggest that this is possible at this point, let alone VR being the main driving force behind this sales surge.

It'll fall short by quite the margin.

You'll be lucky to see PS4 + XB1 + Wii U hit 155 million by end of 2019.

By the end of 2019, the PS4 *could* potentially be over 100m imo.

The Xbox One & Wii U should be able to cover that 55m part.

I think by end of 2019, the PS4,XB1,WiiU will in total be over 155m.

It would need three straight 20 million+ selling years to accomplish this, it did around 17.7 million last year with some pretty poor competition. Is this really realistic thinking? What will maintain this momentum over several years?

If it wasn't for Sony this industry would be dead my now.

PC gaming is still a thing. It's been a thing since forever.

PC gaming as it is is only alive thanks to consoles. Otherwise, the only genres people would be playing are MMOs - mostly Chinese MMOs. Just to clarify - games are being created mostly because of how many consoles gamers are out and then these games get ported to PC. This expands the PC library which brings in more players.
