While we hype up the likes of Zelda U, Pikmin 4 and other potential NX games - I think it's grave to overlook how valuable an incredible sim-racer would be to the NX's first year.
I want a new F-Zero as much as anyone else, but I do think NX is ultimately better served with a more traditional type of racing game. Perhaps a reimagining of the Excite, WaveRace, or Cruisn' franchises - or even some combination thereof.
When you think about it, Nintendo has always had the #1 best-selling racing game in Mario Kart. So it's kind of outrageous they've left behind so many other racing IPs to die (F-Zero, DKR, Excitebike, 1080, WaveRace, Cruisn' ) when there's a huge, vibrant community of racing fans on your platform. Sure - not *all* Mario Kart fans are the type to enjoy a good Gran Turismo/Forza game, but many in fact are. And further, the distinct lack of a true racing sim on Nintendo's platform I believe has been a wedge issue for many racing game fans that would otherwise take a Nintendo console under consideration that venture towards less-traditonal racing games like Mario Kart and Fzero if Nintendo had a competing offering to Forza, Gran Turismo, DiRT, etc.
When you think of how we've traditionally benchmarked PlayStation and Xbox to their predecessors / successors - their racing sims have been a clear point of showcasing the increased power of the console.
Do you agree?
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
