Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kimishima Nintendo Investor Q&A (New NX Info, More 3DS, Wii U = Dead)

I wasn't a fan of Iwata's leadership, but I don't agree with this at all. Iwata stressed this sentiment years before the NX even was announced. Kimishima isn't more focused at all. He's just following what Iwata set in motion.

Iwata stressed that with the WiiU too tho and that didn't stop the constant droughts. Besides, I'm not thinking that Iwata wasn't trying to get rid of droughts. I'm more so thinking that Iwata would've thought that they could launch Holiday 2016 whilst not having a post-launch drought. He would be optimistic and think they could have a steady release schedule without sacrificing Holiday sales.

Kimishima just comes off as more realistic in that sense I guess. Also, do you really believe the plan was to launch March 2017 the whole time? I don't think Kimishima is following an already made plan that closely.

Q11. While the forecasted sales for the WiiU this fiscal year are extremely weak, NX contributions to profitability seem to be included appearing to be numbers showing that, "We have some confidence in the NX, which will start with a sprint." Do you believe that the new NX will be able to cover for the decline of the WiiU?

A11. We have forecast WiiU sales of 800,000 units for this fiscal year, a decline from 2.4m units last fiscal year. In terms of what will cover for it, essentially, the NX and smart device businesses will be central, and also, the download content business is included.

Interesting how he isolated the downloadable content business at the end as something that will make up for the lack of Wii U sales.

I. Wonder. Why.

Lol, jk. I don't actually think this hints at anything, but it'll make Rol cranky sooooooooo.

It's quite obvious that he's talking about DLC.

Expect to see some paid DLC for some Wii U and 3DS games like Splatoon.

The way I see it is that Nintendo beloved there are at least 40M people out there willing to buy a Nintendo handheld console. So the best thing to do is make a handheld with a "home unit" included. or a console with a "handheld" included.  So basically one box, but two platforms.

But that's clearly not the case, because that would very clearly canninalize 3DS sales too. The NX isn't doing that.

I'm 100% sure the plan was for November 2016, but I don't believe that Iwata would have kept the 2016 launch date if it meant a bad launch for the 4th time now. They've literally restructured the entire company to fix this issue. That was Iwata, not Kimishima. He wouldn't wimp out at the final stretch just to meet some arbitrary launch period after all that effort. This is nothing like the Wii U situation.

Iwata definitely was trying to get rid of droughts. Kimishima hasn't done a single thing before this delay that couldn't be predicted over two years ago be following what Iwata has been saying since then about the company's future.

I know he's talking about DLC. Read the spoiler tag.

Though I definitely don't see tham selling enough DLC this fiscal year to even remotely make up for the 1.6 million drop in Wii U production this year, so I think it's weird that he even mentioned it.

I read the spoiler tag and to who it goes .

And DLC alone won't make up for the lost sales, NX and mobile will also help with that.

Q1. It seems the great reduction in the WiiU hardware sales forecast is influenced by the timing of the NX release, but how about 3DS?

A1. While we have set the sales forecast for the WiiU at 800,000 units, we don't think that there will be any negative effect on the 3DS. This fiscal year, the 3DS has big titles as previously presented, and in sufficient quantity. Both hardware and software will make large contributions to sales. Also, while WiiU sales are forecast to drop to 800,000 units, the upside is that we can focus on the 3DS.

This means more New 3DS Bundles, right?

I want that Standard New 3DS but i don't like the Animal Crossing & Pokemon cover plates at all, damn i was about to order one but i think i will hold off a month.

srsly wii u price cut to $150. sell hardwarte so sell software

All that would do is lose money for no reason, especially since there's no significant software to sell with. 2016 is already gonna be one of the worst years ever for Nintendo, both gamewise and financially I bet. May aswell salvage what little they can.
