The error is believable enough - factory is supposed to have chip A sent to board A, and chip B to board B. But someone makes a mistake, and chip A is going to board B, and chip B to board A. So I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the story itself is real.

What is highly doubtable is the idea that this is a reason for the delay. The manufacturing process would be distributed among many factories, and it's still at least 7 months before any theoretical holiday 2016 release, so it's hard to believe that such a screwup would delay things by more than a week or so, overall.

The good side to this rumor if it's true is Nintendo will probably be able to get a really good deal from AMD, so Nintendo could theoretically release the same powered spec console and release it at a cheaper price then they were going to.

So for example if the NX was going to be $400, they could now price it at $300-350.
