Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo Just Did What Microsoft Did.

Microsoft received alot of criticism when the Xbox 360 launched just four years after the OG Xbox launched.

Nintendo is doing the same thing and the criticism is there but not as much.

Why is that?

In a more positive note. Delaying the launch to ensure the games are there makes sense. I also have a feeling the NX is going to be an amazing platform. As an Xbox only gamer I am very interested in the NX. In my opinion I think after the GameCube is where Nintendo went wrong. The Wii and Wii-U were not bad consoles, I think they could have been better with a few changes. Anyhow as a gamer the NX has my interest.

Microsoft looks to launch new hardware, a new controller and new features for Xbox. E3 can't come soon enough. Also looking out for NX news whenever Nintendo is ready. I think the wait will be worth it.

Why are you interested in the NX when you weren't interested in the Wii or WiiU. The NX will be more like them and less like the GC...

My first gaming console was the NES which I got in 1992 at the age of 11. After I saw Sonic the hedgehog on the Sega Genesis, I switched from Nintendo to Sega. When Sega left the business I tried PlayStation but Xbox became my favorite and still is right now. Even though Nintendo is not my favorite, I always respect Nintendo because they are a true gaming company there roots are in gaming, same goes for Sega. And Sega is my favorite of all.

I have to beg to differ with the bolded part. People are saying NX is a flop and doomed all ready and all NX has is a release date lol

Not the same thing at all. The 360 launch was purely strategic... M$ wanted to get the jump on Sony by launching a year early, and be the first on the market with an HD, broadband ready console right out of the box, complete with revamped Xbox Live network that realized the full potential of online gaming on consoles. The OG Xbox served its purpose and was fairly successful in its 4 years on the market, but M$ knew that the future was with the 360, and they were right.

Nintendo on the other hand has no choice launching the NX so soon because the Wii U failed to take off despite its year-long head start, and now the console has both feet in the ground. The console won't even come close to the GC's final sales numbers, which by the way the OG Xbox beat in less than 4 years on the market, and the Wii U has barely managed HALF of the OG Xbox's LTD sales thus far.

No point in keeping a dead console on life support for Nintendo, just pull the plug and move on.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

So are you disappointed by MS and looking to switch again?

Microsoft was able to make that sort of decision cause they weren't in any real trouble, and it's not like the OG Xbox was a complete flop, I'd say it did fine enough.

Nintendo on the other hand is in a pretty bad position, considering that the Wii U did horribly, and they can't afford to make any more huge mistakes if they want to remain credible.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

6th gen was a short gen as a whole though. Most consoles arrived in 2001-2002 and ended in 2005-2006. Nothing like gen 7 where 6-8 years was the norm.

It happens a lot. Nintendo is selling a majority stake in a baseball team to raise cash...no criticism. Sony selling a building? Forums on fire.
