Forums - Movies & TV - Comcast buys DreamWorks Animation in $3.8 billion deal

"On Thursday, Comcast (CCV) said shareholders in DreamWorks will receive $41 in cash per share of stock -- a roughly 50% premium from where the stock was trading before the merger talks were reported earlier this week."

"Comcast said DreamWorks "will become part of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, which includes Universal Pictures, Fandango, and NBCUniversal Brand Development."

"NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke said "DreamWorks will help us grow our film, television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to come."

Posted the Article and some content, really nothing to note outside of it being of the topic, besides the CEO is stepping down but will help. (Typical Merger stuff).

How do you guys feel about this? Dreamworks has always been hit or miss company, would this carry them forward or hold them back.

I don't care. Haven't watched a new animated movie in years. Wreck-It-Ralph was the last one I saw. That might have been this year...

And me thinking that DW was going to be bought by Warner Brothers, just to keep their rivalry with Disney-Pixar. Still, 3.8b$ is a lot of money, they must have some ideas of what to do with it.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Doesn't Comcast already own Illumination Entertainment? I don't see why they would want another animation studio, but we'll see what happens next.

Even with this they can't hold a candle to Disney/Pixar, their movies are at another level lol.

They do, but that does not necessarily mean they conflict or cannot benefit from this, as Disney Animated Studios co-exists with Pixar.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Whats interesting is the existing contracts that Dreamworks has means that Comcast would be working with rival studios! :P
