Nintendo also had faith in the wii u. And even with bad wii u sales they made decision like: No Voice Chat in Splatoon, Dual Screen Star Fox crap, Amiibo festival and so much more. Maybe THEY think its awesome, but I doubt it will be that great for the rest of the world. |
Any company has faith in their console but coming after a crap shoot that was Wii U, I think they're looking to change their ways. Nintendo doesn't always make the best decisions but some of their most successful work, mainly thanks to Iwata, was some of their weirdest concepts. Motion control and Dual Screen gaming. Both were heavily ridiculed at release but both sold over 100 Million units. Hopefully the Wii U kicked them in the butt enough to make them want to compete again. And for the record, I saw that Nintendo didn't have as much faith in the Wii U because of the poor 3rd party support, they didn't know how to effectively market it, they didn't know how they would use 2 gamepads but tehy still announced dual support and have yet to use it, I could tell that they weren't too faithful in it. But you can't pull a SEGA and jump ship the second things go wrong. That makes the problem worse.
Amiibo festival was more of a filler to most likely put something on Wii U while they make NX games, voice chat for splatoon...it's not a deal breaker. The game is fun and it follows Nintendo's family values. I wouldn't want my kid playing splatoon getting exposed to other corrupt vulgar people either. Star Fox...I have no remedy for that.
To sum it up, Nintendo had to grin and bear the Wii U even though their first party games were amazing. Mario Kart 8 has like almost a 75% attach rate...but the console sold poorly. Let's hope Nintendo learns from their mistake and releases something that is different enough to garner attention from gamers of all types. That's their only hope at this point if they want to stay in home console hardware.
