Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U Is Dead (Pretty Much) -- What's Its Legacy?

In the long run, nothing. Wiiu had no games that really changed the industry. The wiiu will be a forgotten console.

Have to agree with this. In the end, people will look back at it as the console that tried to live off its predecessor's long gone success and a clunky tablet controller. And oh yeah Amiibo, that popular toy line for scalping 30 something men. The console has some great games but no title on the calibre of Metroid Prime or a Mario Galaxy, or even its own Zelda.

for me - some of the best games ever - for sure this generation.

most games owned on a console ever.

for nintnedo.

Splatoon, Amiibo are good things.

No Zelda is a bad thing!

Switch!!!

Well I heard kimishima-san say that they want the nx to be around for a long time so could probably be the last traditional home console. And also at the end of the day the games define a console's legacy the most and Wii u had innovators like splatoon and first steps like pokken and awesome continuations like smash Mario kart 8 XCX and bayonetta and pikmin. Also the first console for amiibos as they might stick for a long time and the best internet browser for a console ever although not that important for a console. Nintendo's first experiment at HD gaming and I would like to think it will leave behind a great legacy like the GameCube. Also I hope it is remembered as the worst selling Nintendo console

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

Splatoon, Mario Maker and best Mario Kart.

Splatoon and Mario Kart.

Those two games stand out more than anything else on the system.
Thats probably what the Wii U will be remembered for.

Some good games :S

It will be remembered as the perfect example of why innovating just to innovate doesn't work. At all.

Bad design choices... Alot of the components they picked didnt get cheaper over time.

Spending 100$ on the gamepad, which ment the wii u never went as low in price as nintendo wanted it to (because they refused to sell at loss).

Wii U (and 3DS to a lesser extent) really were a case study in a product searching for a problem to solve.

The Wii and DS were born more organically, tailored to solve a problem that actually existed (no one in the mid-2000s was paying any attention to casuals or lapsed gamers).
