Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U Is Dead (Pretty Much) -- What's Its Legacy?

worst nintendo home console of all time. The top 10 games or so are really good, the library has very little depth and no 3rd party support. It's still a pretty decent system overall if you like your 1st party Nintendo games.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I've put more time in Lego City undercover than all Wii's Marios combined. 3D world and NSMBU got a lot of attention again, fun in co-op, same with Rayman Legends. My kids heavily played Splatoon while I put way too much time in Mario Maker, editting on the gamepad for hours at a time. MK8 gets played often as well, my wife and kids like it a lot.

The WiiU gets a lot of flack, yet it's still used daily in my house, if not simply by one of my kids watching you tube on the gamepad. It's the best game streaming there is by far, less display lag than my tv and very convenient with kids. I've used it to watch Netflix while playing Elite Dangerous on my laptop. It's handy when the tv remote is missing again. I still use it for Wii Fit while watching TV, or out on the deck when the sun is out. The console is small and easily put anywhere so the limited range isn't really much of an issue. It's very sturdy too, survived countless drops with my kids growing up. (Our iPad had a nasty crack in the screen less than half a year after we got it)

I only really miss Paper Mario and Zelda. And I had hoped for something like Zack and Wiki taking full advantage of the gamepad.

I would love to use remote play on the Wii U ... it was a feature when announced I thought I would use a lot buuuuuuut ...

The Wii U gamepad screen is a cheap piece of crap. It's literally a worse quality screen than even $70 no name kids tablets I see at Best Buy. It's a screen like something from a 2002-era portable DVD player that a grandma would use. I don't know how Nintendo even finds components this shitty, it's like they go back in time to special order them.

I didn't play through 6 years of the Wii with miserable muddy low resolution SD on an HDTV to now not enjoy HD graphics on the Wii U, so I basically play all the time on the HDTV. I can't go back to SD resolution, which is what the Wii U tablet screen basically is.

ehhh, i'm very much the opposite.  I play remote play exclusively if i have the option even though the TV is right there in front of me most of the time.

Some cracking exclusives. Not much else.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

My own unpopular opinion on that topic: That would be the N64. Cant stand it. Even fewer great games than on the Wii U, the worst controller in the history of gaming and worst first party titles of any nintendo console. It made me go to PC games for almost 15 years before turning back to consoles again. Probably not going to get a lot of agreement here on that though hehe.

As for the Wii U, I have had lots of fun with it and it has certainly been worth every penny. MK8, Smash, Splatoon, Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Mario Maker, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends (definite edition), Tropical Freeze, Windwaker (definite edition), Woolly World, XCX are some of my favorite games to come out since 2012 across all systems. Depth is lacking though but there are some great games and solid amount of Indie games as well. Too bad it didnt become more of a hit with more support. I think it will be looked upon like a great system in a few years and will be highly sought after by collectors. Sort of like the Dreamcast.

It'll be a negative one, that's all I'll say.

I dunno man, N64 has some of the greatest/most influential games ever made.

Super Mario 64

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

GoldenEye

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Star Fox 64, F-Zero X, Mario Kart 64, Perfect Dark, Wave Race 64, Killer Instinct Gold, Blast Corps, Banjo-Kazooie, Sin & Punishment, Beetle Adventure Racing, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Paper Mario, etc.

And still, I know a man who would keep banging the drum and claim it was all part of some grand, genius plan.

Does that man really existis? I want to meet him.

OP:

The good - Xenoblade X

The bad - see below

The ugly - lack of ambition (3DWorld, DK), there were more droughts and delays than actual games released

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

the 2010's dreamcast while it didn't make the company go third party it has some great exclusives and games that one day will become cult classics.

Downsampled to 540p makes 720p look better than upscaled to 1080p :p Higher than a portable dvd player anyway.
Fast racing NEO was better on the Gamepad than on tv, big mess on tv. And it was perfect for Mario maker.

But true, most games I rather play on the big screen, not just because of the resolution. Screen size and sound are more important. However with Pikmin 3 I found my eyes wander to stay focussed on the gamepad rather than looking up at the tv. It worked better on the gamepad.

Maybe if the WiiU was succesful Nintendo would have launched a GamePadii with 720p screen. Or at least make it so you can use its controls for Wii games that don't need waggle. So stupid you can use the classic controller with tons of Wii games but not the GamePad controls. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
