Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U Is Dead (Pretty Much) -- What's Its Legacy?

It has some really great games. That's pretty much it...

I guess it's legacy depends on who you ask.

For some it will be
that failed add-on to the Wii.
- the lowest selling Nintendo home console to date (depending on how the NX performs)
- the first console they ever had and enjoyed many games on
- their last Nintendo console
- an underappreciated console that produced some really great games
- remembered for the couch multiplayer games like Mario Kart 8, Smash 4, SM3DW, NSMBU, Rayman Legends, Nintendo Land or the party games
- an underpowered machine that couldn't live up to it's potential
- loved/dreaded for the multitude of controllers

At the end I hope people that played on the Wii U remember it for it's games.
I definitely will remember the fun I had playing together with my niece.

Platforms: Wii U, New 3DS, PS4, PC

currently playing:
 -Yoshi's Wooly World
 -Pokemon X
 -Fire Emblem Fates

Zone: Europe (Germany)

it will be the most expensive retro console ever in 20 years time lol.

You know what, that Saturn comparison is pretty perfect. A bunch of all-time great games and unique gameplay styles, but sunk by poor third-party support, bad decision-making, and a relatively short lifespan.

Off TV (super useful), Splatoon (the funniest game I've played in a lot of time), The Wonderful 101 (best action game ever), DKC Tropical Freeze (best 2D Platformer ever) and the oportunity to play two of my favourite Zeldas like never before (Twilight Princess and Wind Waker). I'll remember Wii U with a lot of affection in the future. It's a pity it never got a huge 3D Mario, a Metroid and more third party support...

Retrospectively, the gamecube didn't have any exclusive Zelda games either. Except four swords.

I have a weird feeling that NX (console) may then be a lot like the Dreamcast -- a much, much better effort, fondly remembered, but perhaps the damage done previous is too much to overcome and a release that straddles two generations.

Wind Waker. I mean virtually every Zelda game gets ported and many get "remade" so like 10-20 years later, but obviously is a very different story.

Xenoblade X should also be listed as one of the goods. Not quite as good as its predecessor but easily one of the best fantasy worlds ever made in a game. Truly a joy to just explore that world.

"Retrospectively"

"Almost as good as the Dreamcast"
