Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NX 2017 Lineup Predictions

You are totally wrong if you think that some 2D platformer (ever Mario) can be system seller today, but you will definitely have lotsa people who would actually buy new Nintendo console for Mario Galaxy 3 or some different 3D Mario game, not onother 2D Mario.

Also you are totally wrong if you think NSMBU and Nintendo Land sold Wii U, at launch only hard cores Nintendo fans bought Wii U and that has nothing with launch games that were atualy very weak. Right after launch Wii U sales become terrible, because no one except Nintendo hardcores didn't want to buy brand new console to play 2D Mario and Nintendo Land, people buy consoles for much bigger games, games like 3D Mario, 3D Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros...games that are realy system sealers.

Again, 3D Mario is far bigger game that has much stronger impact and that brings lots attention of industry, you cant say that for any 2D platform game even for 2D Mario, thats why is more important to have 3D Mario game at launch or in 1st year of console than having 2D Mario. Basically you can say some thing for 3D Zelda, 2D Mario is selling better than Zelda, but Zelda brings huge attention of industry to console and not just of Nintendo fans, and always is one of best games of whole generation, something similar could be said for 3D Zelda also.

Launching Wii U without big game was terrible decision, Nintendo will definitely want to have much better launch lineup with NX, that means 3D Mario not just onother 2D platformer.

Iam 100% confident we will have 3D Mario in 1st year of NX and that we will not have new 2D Mario game in 1st year (exept maybe port of Mario Maker).

lol @ arguing against cold hard numbers with "because I say so!" logic. You're actually both wrong though, I mean all you have to do is look at the recent sales.

SM3DL - 10 million, NSMB2 - 9 million

NSMBU - 5 million, SM3DW - 4 million

These are much more relevant for determining 2D Mario's current value than an installment from 7 years ago, and while no longer gargantuan, it's clearly just as big as 3D Mario despite minority forum go-ers constant complaints about it's quality. However, going back to where this argument started, Miyamotoo is right in saying 3D Mario will come first. The numbers above show it doesn't matter which one is released first since they have the same impact, just as long as one they have one of them, so we look to other factors. Come NX launch it'll have been over 3 years since the last 3D Mario. SM3DW was 3 years after Galaxy 2 which was 3 years after Galaxy, so the timing makes sense. Then if that likely rumor about Mario Maker NX port is to be believed, it would mean the 2D Mario gap is already filled, so it would be pretty redundant to launch a NSMB game alongside it.

I think you forgot that they are still working on some unannounced Wii U Games (which was confirmed by Iwata) and that their home console output is like 6 Games a year, not 20. If you really expect that many AAA Games then you will clearly be disappointed.

And that game was Color Trash. Having started work on NX games since 2014 and a unified library makes it very possible.

And how did you reach that conclusion?

Animal Crossing,Splatoon,2D Mario,a Mario spinoff and Kirby could all release in 2018,that's 5 games right there, not to mention that they could always have a 3rd party studio work on something, they could bring out some remakes and we don't know how many games changed mid-development from the Wii U to the NX, besides they need a strong first year, one of the reason that the Wii U failed was because of the lack of games in it's first year.

Iwata passed away last July, since that time the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament, Twilight Princess HD, Mini Mario & Friends, Paper Mario: Color Splash have been announced. Iwata already lived up to that statement.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

  • An amiibo based game (like Skylanders)
  • Kirby
  • Animal Crossing
  • F-Zero (remember how Nintendo was trying to get F-Zero for the Wii U launch?)
  • Splatoon (could be a big hit yet again)
  • 2D Mario (maybe Mario Maker port?)
  • Mario Party
  • A SNES Remix maybe?
  • The Legend of Zelda (duh)
  • Super Smash Bros. 4 port?

These are my predictions, from most likely to least likely:

Zelda (confirmed)

Pikmin 4

3D Mario

Luigi's Mansion 3

Animal Crossing

New Super Mario Bros X

Retro's Game (new IP)

Metroid

Mario Strikers/Football 2

Mario Party 12

Likely ports:

Splatoon

Mario Maker

Super Smash

I don't expect all of these games to be released, but I expect SOME of them to. I also expect a new Paper Mario to appear on the NX, but I don't know if it'll be yet another port or if it'll be a brand new installment.

EDIT: Perhaps Animal Crossing is more likely than either 3D Mario or Luigi's Mansion...

EDIT II: MK9 will release Holiday 2018, and if it's released after Holiday 2019 Diddy Kong Racing 2 will launch a year or two before hand.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Of those i would say Mario 3D, Pikmin 4 and Hyrule Warriors 2 could happen.

Not that the rest can't happen, but they also have the rumoured ports and wasting too many established franchises in a single year might not be the best option.
Unless, of course, they are going with the shared library idea, then, who knows!

Sales of some game doesn't equal with system seller, especially if we have games like NSMBU and Nintendo Land that very heavily bundled basically from launch. Even we can say that NSMBU is one of must have games for Nintendo fans, that game is not game for which people would buy system in first place in order to play it, but that is actually case with 3D Mario games.

NX will be launch in March 2017, thats basicly around 3.5 years from SM3DW and thats enuf time for new 3D Mario game. Also Nintendo said they will changing concept of 2D Mario games, probably no more NSMB and thats great thing.

Still trying to argue against cold hard numbers with opinions. Btw, NSMBU was not bundled since launch, was never the only bundle available, and SM3DW got bundled aswell, plus I don't think NSMB2 was ever bundled whereas SM3DL was shortly after it released.

Pikmin 4 (35%) - I suspect that Pikmin is in the works and will see a new entry for the NX. But I also doubt that this will be one of the first priorities at Nintendo EPD.

Pikmin 4 was confirmed last year by Miyamoto, and said it was "almost completed".  Likely the only reason it isn't announced yet for release soon is because Nintendo moved it to NX some time in the last six months.  So, worst case, it would be a launch title.  Best case, it releases this year as Wii U's final exclusive game before NX and Zelda launch in 2017.

can you show me any data that proves 3D Mario is a bigger system seller than 2D Mario?

Because you talking only about sale numbers of games, I talking about impact and effect games having on whole market and whole attentione their bring, thats way more important for platform, especially totally new platform than just sales numbers of same games that don't do that.

I talked about NSMBU bundles, NSMBU bundles were in sale much earlier than SM3DW, actually I think first available bundle after Nintendo Land bundle was NSMBU bundle.
