Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo & YT Content ID system for copyrighted content successfully trolled by Jim Sterling

- Jim Sterling talked about latest Star Fox WiiU game and in his desire to stop companies from cashing in from his video by YouTube's Content ID digital fingerprint he found a work around to mess with the system

- he went for content he previously posted that was flagged as copyright in the past and dumped it into the video as well, along with Star Fox

- he shoved footage of Metal Gear Solid V, Grand Theft Auto V, and Beyond: Two Souls

- now companies battle about who owns copyright to his latest video

- Sterling says:

“You may have noticed this week’s video had footage from Metal Gear Solid V, Grand Theft Auto V, and Beyond: Two Souls in it,” Sterling said. “Now, there’s a reason for that. The reason is Nintendo. Because I’m talking about a Nintendo game this week, I’ve used Nintendo game footage, and that means Nintendo will attempt to monetize this video even though the point of the Jimquisition is to be ad-free, thanks to your lovely help on Patreon.”

“I figured every time I talk about Nintendo, I’m going to throw in other stuff that gets flagged by Content ID, and just watch the corporations battle it out,”

Not sure I completely understand.

Can't you choose to demonetize your own videos? So if you wanted something to be ad-free/not have Nintendo get the money - couldn't have have just turned off monetizing for that video?

Companies can forcibly monetize content via the automated system, putting ads on ad free vids.  Or rerouting ad revenue if there are ads.

I did not know that.

So if two or more companies have a claim to the video - neither of them can forcibly monetize it, or put ads on it?

I would have guessed it would have "split" the ad money between anyone who put a claim on a video.

Don't know what Jim's trick will do.  Not sure he does either.  He just knows it will be funny :P
