Because Ratchet was an unlikable ass in the original game and nobody liked that. It's literally one of the most complained about aspects of that game. It was an unwanted leftover of the 90s edge trope that was dropped in every sequel that followed.

also this. that first game is out of place with the rest of the franchise (for the worse, imo).

This^^^ just the ugly facial expressions ratchet gives with all the attitude in the original are enough to cut them out. He's a total dick to clank even after clank saves his life.
