Im sure I read somewhere that the new pres said they are dropping the Wii and DS brand/name for the NX.

Fusion is a good name, but they'd never use a fan-established name like that. Cross isn't a good name because it sounds like the start of an incomplete sentence. Numbers make sense because they denote order. A noun only makes sense if it denotes a title. Something can be a fusion. Something can't be a cross, unless you want this thing to have biblical connotations.

They're probably going to name it something that can be branded to both systems. It can be anything, though. They could've called the 3DS the Wii DS, for example. Since the concert was coming out first, it will probably pioneer the branding, with the handheld having a "little brother" Brandon since the consul is coming out first, it will probably pioneer the branding, with the handheld having a "little brother" branding. Think PlayStation versus PlayStation Portable.

What I really hope for though is a name that makes both feel like equal individuals that are a part of the same ecosystem. Apple achieves this by prefixing everything with the letter "i." I think Nintendo can do something similar. In addition, Nintendo can brand both by giving the consul a name that denotes foundation wall giving the handheld a name that denotes traversal. Something like the Nintendo eHit and eRun. Those are obviously examples made to be functional rather then catchy, but you get my point. I don't know what I'd call it though. Definitely not that.

They minds well keep it NX. That's what everyone has been calling it since the late Iwata uttered it a year ago. It's simple, can be interpreted many ways and has no real interpretation like the DS. Sure it meant Dual Screen, but it also stood for Development System or something to that effect. They're gonna change it because they're Nintendo but it really should say NX. Just think about it..."Only on NX". Even looks good without the logo!
