But aren't you curious about what would have been the result?

It certainly doesn't look cheap and it has some big name starts on its roster

Hell no! I rather have a R&C movie by Shyamalan-- No wait, that's as bad.
Now imagine if it was made by Don Bluth.

Dude, I'd fucking love a R&C Shyamalan movie if it was in the vein of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable or Signs. xD
I'm expecting it to perform similarly to Astro Boy.
Total Lifetime Grosses

That is a bit low I would think. Animation films are huge gamble money wise. (Not as much as an Action flick) |
Unfortunately there's little to no chance it does 50m domestic. Half that would be good. As far as I know the movie costed below 20m to produce so add in all the other costs and it probably needs 40-50m worldwide to be profitable.

If that is really the budget, I am impressed 1. Since, and 2. I really have overestimated the attemp they made.

I've seen this number elsewhere on the internet, but do you have a source (for 20 million)? Also, it opened to 560,000 $ in France for those who are interested.
In the other thread, I predicted $25m but with Jungle Book and Civil War, I suspect it will do much worse on opening week. Maybe as low as $10m.

Yeah it's actually $15.3 million (not sure whether it's USD or CAD) with $10.1 million net of refundable tax credits. So the movie was really cheap to make for Rainmaker.
Here's the financial report in which it is discussed (page 4):
