Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony FY2015 financial forecasts delayed until May due to Earthquake, but results are effectively out (see post 2)

I hope there wasn't many casualties.

The PS5 Exists.

Sounds like some misdirection to hide weaker than expected earnings. Companies always pull this type of stuff, reading The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham really exposes a lot of it.

The impact of the earthquake might not impact them too badly financially. If they have already booked an impairment charge due to lowering demand, then a drop in production due to a shutdown line from the earthquake might have minimal impact (as supply would have to be reduced due to falling demand anyway). Obviously there will be material costs with repairing and restarting the productions lines.

The drop in smartphone sales will impact a lot of players, reports have said iPhone shipments are expected to continue their year on year decline despite the iPhone SE release. With the market maturing and continuing to commoditise, the heady days of >10% growth in shipments are coming to an end.

The shares will hold steady, the results are not that bad and will pick up once Apple announce their new flagship phone. No worries....

The impairment charge for their camera module business was heavily hinted at during their Q3 presentation, so that's no surprise (but it's weird that they didn't adjust down their forecast asap). What's interesting is that excluding one time expenses for FY15, they are quite a bit above their forecast.

Some people... Jesus.

If this was to hide weaker than expected earnings, why would they announce their preliminary earnings at the same time as they announced their full quarterly results would be delayed?

they will....

but they did drop 5% after the announcement having risen by the same amount a few days earlier and they are 15% lower than the 1 year high.

Yeah, I realise. I remember them hitting over 29 but it is early in the year and they have a lot of big things coming later this year.... big films, game and console releases, music, Apple products for devices etc.

They are certainly on an upward trend despite some unforseeable short-term setbacks. I hope they get to 35 in the next 18 months but they could be worth much more based on assets and more importantly potential.

Geez... Japan is a dangerous place to live in. I feel sorry for them. It's not cool knowing your country is gonna sink into the ocean and disappear before the others. Though ofc... long time until that happens.

I'm surprised they havent made an anime about that already.

RIP to all those who died.

All i care about is the gaming division, has that been included in the delay?
