Imagine you were playing a game on your PC. The game's visuals are fine, but you don't appreciate the low frame rate.
What do you do? Go buy a new graphics card, plop the old one out, and insert the new one in.
This may seem farfetched, but the next generation of PC's are in jeopardy. Less computers are being sold(intel even cut over 10,000 jobs), with phones being the main attraction for casual audiences(phones are becoming stale though).
Perhaps making it easier to upgrade your PC will attract more people to computers again. Now people can buy a computer and have it last 10+ years for them, without the need to buy a new computer whenever is starts to become slow. It'll even be easier to customize your computer.
There may be cons I'm overlooking though.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.
