Forums - PC Discussion - Next PC's- revamp to save the industry?

Imagine you were playing a game on your PC. The game's visuals are fine, but you don't appreciate the low frame rate.

What do you do? Go buy a new graphics card, plop the old one out, and insert the new one in.

This may seem farfetched, but the next generation of PC's are in jeopardy. Less computers are being sold(intel even cut over 10,000 jobs), with phones being the main attraction for casual audiences(phones are becoming stale though).

Perhaps making it easier to upgrade your PC will attract more people to computers again. Now people can buy a computer and have it last 10+ years for them, without the need to buy a new computer whenever is starts to become slow. It'll even be easier to customize your computer.

There may be cons I'm overlooking though.

Making PC gaming more convenient won't do anything for sales. PCs have gone down in sales because smart devices and tablets are making them functionally obsolete for 99% of consumers. That has nothing to do with gaming.

the problem with PC's is that people just dont want them anymore. Nobody wants to buy a giant PC tower, a monitor to set up, and then set aside desk space to use it. and dont throw the whole "oh but you can put a PC anywhere these days" argument at me, because no, thats not how the general public views PCs. desktops computers were meant to be tools and are still primarily used as them. Hell, there are probably more Mac computers in service right now than gaming PCs. point being, nowadays tablets and laptops do the same thing and take up 1/10 of the space, plus they are mobile. and dont get me started on upgrading, when it comes to the general public, that doesnt appeal to anybody

I'm dying over here. Can't believe it worked.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

Sales of high-end GPUs for gaming are going up though...

I get that this is a parody but I don't get who is supposed to be the butt of the joke.

Yep.  PC Gamers will continue to do the same thing they've always done.

Do we have numbers and models?

Spem said it perfectly. There's not much more to say on the issue.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
