I'm waiting to find out who has the marketing deal for Titanfall 2. If Sony has it then I'd suggest part of the reason or the delay is so they can concentrate on that.

Not a good idea to launch around ME4 at all.

The two games operate in completely different spaces, it  wouldn't make sense to trade up an exclusive Single Player/Adventure RPG for Titanfall marketing rights. This game was the number 1 suspect of a potential delay so I personally don't think theres much more to it other than a 3 years dev cycle for an ambitious new IP being too optimistic. Sony has never pressured devs hands into meeting holiday deadlines (The Order, Uncharted) so I'm not surprised here. 

This has been worked on since 2011 though.

It's only speculation, but Tombraider wasn't in the same space as Fallout 4 but everyone and his mother agrees releasing Tombraider alongside that game was a bad move.
