Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft ending Xbox 360 Production

its always sad to see a console retired. But, for Microsoft, this opens up the door for other projects. Also, the 360 wasn't windows 10. Now, all of Microsoft's offerings will be Windows 10 devices. I have a prediction about where Microsoft is going and it works something like this:

Microsoft merges the Xbox and Windows Store into one place for all W10 devices to access and download content.
Then, the extend the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility to PC. This way, the 360 will live on through all W10 devices.

My personal favourite console of the seventh generation. Even with the flaws, some annoying choices (like wtf were they doing with the dashboard, the original was perfect!) paid internet and not so good final years' lifespawn support, it was truly a beast. A damn great console that gave me, at least, plenty of enjoyement and good times throughout all these years. It's a shame that it has come to an end, particulary when I find myself still playing games on it.

Any chance of 360 beating the 90 million mark? Checking the numbers of the previous generation through VGC, 360 has sold 85 million. 5 million of stock is way too much?

Not complaining, though. Microsoft managed to combo-break the Top Ten most-successful consoles sales-wise with the Xbox 360, which was primarily a Sony/Nintendo affair. :D

No offense intended.  Just adding my comments such as yourself when you responded to the original PS2 sales comparison.

Which comment?   I merely said PS2 was an anomoly in length of production... because it is.    Thats actually a compliment.

I made no reference to its qaulity or its number of sales....

Its a shame a playstation had to be dragged into the thread with the first response.  Typical, but a shame.

Ka-pi96 first said: "Well that's kind of early. Didn't PS2 stay in production until like 2012 or something?"

And your response was: "Early!? are you joking? 11 years v 12 years? PS2 is an anomoly anyway."

So it was implied that Ka-pi96 was comparing the Xbox 360 to the PS2 with the Xbox 360 in a negative light (Xbox 360's production run less than the PS2).  So the reasoning behind my response was that the PS2 could be argued as the better console than the Xbox 360 for whatever reason since its lifespan outstripped the Xbox 360 as opposed to being an "anomoly."  And you were never clear as to what you meant as an "anomoly."  Compliment or not, my logic is sound and reasonable, and it still stands. So if you want me to "leave it,"  maybe you should have never responded to the original PS2 comment in the first place. You should have "LEFT IT" as is.

Sure.  But you did say "One of the best consoles ever." in regards to the Xbox 360 while responding to another post in regards to the PS2's lifespan.  So one could logically argue that the PS2 was also one of the best because of its lifespan on the market.  It's a fair accessment given the conversation within this thread

great.  whatever.  can you just leave it please.

😂 last words. You're not going to get them.

360 was/is a great console. Legendary like Ronster said.

The console that really got me into gaming again after Dreamcast. Gears, Mass effect and Halo 4 contributed to making it the best console ever in my view.

Big Boss Salute

Awesome console with varied library from 2005-2009

Post Kinect meh, Halo/Gears/Forza trio didn't do me much.

What about Super Meat Boy, Shadow Complex, Minecraft, BattleBlock Theater, Bastion, no?

You just named 5 games for a 7 year span.  I think that might actually help make Turk's point...

Don't make me take your username seriously.

I was about to post a list with 100s of games I found on a list of XBLA games, but I don't wanna read a boring mod post.

I know Indie and small games used to be bashed during X360 era but please.

He just named a few, to break out the idea of the Forza/Gears/Halo trio being the only worthwile thing post-kinect.

Not counting the multiplatforms you could get on PS3 as well, there's also Alan Wake, Fable, State of Decay, The Witcher 2, The Gunstringer, Ninety-Nine Nights (the sequel I think), Max: the curse of brotherhood, Titanfall, Zoo Tycoon, Akai Katana, Tropico, Gray Matter, Arcania (though it released on PS4 recently), plus certain other games that were exclusive to either America or Europe (not counting Japan obviously, especially for those we couldn't import due to region locking).

That's around 18 (worthwile) games in the span of 7 years. I mean, it's still not as good as it could have been, and certainly the first three/four years of the 360 beat the several next ones out in quality and quantity, but hey.

Every once in a while I need to try and remind people that my username is what it is and give them a reason why I chose it.  My post was largely in jest, though not well conveyed.  Fact is though that toward the end even though they did have other games come out, most of the marketing stuck to the safe zone that was the Forza/Halo/Gears trio.  The stereotype exists for a reason, even if those of us who go further than just one site and some commercials for our information know it isn't a completely accurate picture.

For me multi-platform games never really count, but I am the "all consoles every gen" type of gamer.  I generally go with where the best version of the multiplat is, and enjoy the exclusives that the other consoles offer.  Alan Wake and Fable were two of my favorite offerings on the 360.  The others, imo, all meh.  Though I didn't play Witcher 2, and loved 3.
