Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4K the Hardware bargain of this Decade? 4K Blu Ray Player alone cost 400$

4k is pointless. The improvement in fidelity is no where near equal to the upgrade from SD to HD. I get the feeling a lot of people share my viewpoint, too, so I don't see 4k playback being a huge selling point for the NEO.

It'll be a great bargain, though.

When things sound too good to be true, they probably aren't.

I have compared reg HD to 4k Dolby Vision side by side and I can tell you the difference is huge.

I have done the same and I can tell you the difference is a waste of money. I mean, sure, 4k looks better, but not better enough for me to care in the slightest. Maybe it'll be good for projectors with huge screens, but not 45-65" TVs, imo.

Are you sure it wasnt reg 4k. Dolby Vision makes a huge difference

4k content is doomed because of Internet greedy Internet providers and the ridiculous cost of data, at least in my Country.

Streaming 4k content is not really feasible or cost effective for about 99% of the population. And that's going forward another 5 years at least.

Unless data providers are going to have some sort of change of heart. This is a business so who are we kidding.

4k adoption is a dream, the public is not in a financial position, most 4k sets have been sold to people who had to upgrade and we're just future proofing themselves.

I don't know what country you live in, but my internet is already well above what it needs to be to stream 4K content and it probably be twice as fast 5 years from now.

I didn't say we can't stream 4k, I said it's not feasible based on cost. I know a a few videophiles that have been downloading 4k content, trust me it hurts their massive data plans. Im saying we're at least 5 years away from Joe public streaming 4k.

There are a lot of people that still don't have 4K televisions. That's not going to be a big selling point for them. This could end up being like 3D blu ray players and tvs.

not the same thing at all.

tv makers are always bumping resolution of their tvs, even people that are not aware about resolution and stuff, they will end up buying those tvs weather they like or not because it will be a standard. its just a normal evolution of the things.

But that doesn't mean people will care about 4k. Which is why DVD's are still around. A lot of times. Things still don't come out on BD, only DVD. And downloads are still offered in SD. Even when a 4K TV is norm, and are eventually in everyones homes. People aren't gonna really care to bother to get the content, in the first place. And are not going to willingly buy them. Only when the TV dies. This will be the slowest adoption rate. Also, this advantage would be over in 1 year. Prices on this stuff drops way faster. Than the PS2 days. So it would become moot faster, to just buy a PS4 Neo, for this function.

You can get 4k players for like $100....

upscaling to 4k doesnt come close to a 4k blueray with HDR10 or Dolby Vision

And we're assuming PS4k will do that because?
