Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Emily Rogers made a new blog post about the NX's software output

If they manage to release a solid first party output each year, with at least 15 games per year, 2/3 AAA Nintendo games, and the rest of them smaller games... It won't really need third party support to convince me XD. I don't have money for more than this.

I see some people think this means more small and less quality games, but I dont think so, small games on Wii U like Kirby, Mario Tennis, Amiibo Festival..showed that they are bad and that nobody care about them. Main point for titles like Mario Tennis and Amiibo festival to give Wii U owners some sort support till NX arives. Hardly that Nintendo new strategy is to force game like those on new platform.

Even Emily said she is 100% sure about this, she's probably little exaggerated when she said "NX will have better library in 1 year than Wii U 3-4 years", but we can also say that she think NX will have much better library than Wii U.

How sometime like this could be achive:
-The entire process of how Nintendo develops and produces software probably has gone through radical changes (like Emily said).
-Nintendo told about unified platform, that means handheld and home consoles teams that are now part of same and united division will work on NX games for one just one platform.
-Last big Wii U game that isnt small project, port/remake or spin off is announced at E3 2014, that basically means Nintendo moved focus from Wii U to NX in 2014.
-Its almost certain that several unannounced Wii U titles were moved to NX, we can only assume for several games/projects: Pikmin 4, Retros game, Next Level Games game...
-Nintendo also talked about how they want to make platform on which will be much easier to make ports, that means more ports and remasters (we already have rumour about 4 Wii U ports).
-Nintendo will definitely make some other projects like they made Wonderful 101 and Star Fox Zero where mostly Platinum developed Nintendo IP.
-There will definitely be more exclusive projects like Lego City, Bayonetta 2, Fatal Frame V...and projects like Hyrule Warriors.

Saying all that, I am also 100% confident that NX will have much better launch and 1st year same like whole output of games, than Wii U had.

I don't really know if radically changing development process would be such a good thing, but I seriously doubt Emily Rogers would know anything about the inner workings of Nintendo's Japanese studios.

Nintendo actually makes plenty of games.

The problem has been that they have to make games for two systems instead of one, if you divided Sony or MS' output in two, it would look terrible.

And the portable as technology has advanced has basically become a second console for Nintendo to have to worry about, so they're effectively making games for two consoles now.

But Nintendo makes more than enough games per year, that's never been the issue.

I really hope Nintendo go all in on the NX and invest more money than before to get a first year lineup that makes it impossible for both gamers and third party developers to ignore it. With a unified library this should be a lot easier, of course. I would also appreciate experiments with smaller projects like Splatoon, which may every now and then result in a great new IP, as long as they still release 2-3 AAA games with the popular franchises every year. I also hope that a great number of releases doesn't mean that we will get more games like Mario Tennis that get finished after release.

Thirty-something releases only in the first year seems pretty unrealistic, of course, unless they also include third-party shovelware like the likes of Just Dance.

Super weak! the first thing everyone was talking about, and has been discussed to pure exhaustion, was the software solution, and how Nintendo will rely less on 3rd parties (Fusion), miss LTTP Rogers. Telling people not to focus on the HW, when that is the clear unknown about NX? what a lame...

Shouldn't we count out 2nd party games, remasters, games Nintendo paid for (Lego City, Bayonetta 2, for example) and collaborations and just count the games that were actually developed by Nintendo itself - i.e., NoJ?

I'm not sure the "first party games" line included at least collaborations like Smash Brothers or Mario & Sonic.

The Nintendo of 2016 is highly diversified. They combine their internal staff with outsourced staff at other companies to make their video games a reality.

For example, Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes which you would normally classify as "actually developed by Nintendo itself" because it's a Zelda game was actually developed by a combination of four studios: the Zelda team at Nintendo EPD, Grezzo Co., Ltd., SRD Co., Ltd., and 1-UP Studio Inc.

Even Mario Kart 8 was made as a collaboration of Nintendo EAD and Bandai Namco Studios Inc.

And the games that you would consider "2nd party games" or "outsourced" always have Nintendo internal staff working on them as a collaboration. They don't just exist in isolation apart from Nintendo....without Nintendo, they wouldn't be a reality.

So you can't really make that distinction anymore. First-party games are games that are published by Nintendo. Everything is SO messy nowadays that if you try to delineate any further than that you lead to arbitrary classifications that just don't make any sense.

Bandai helped on MK8? Had no idea.

Well, at least we can count out the games Nintendo actually paid for.
Also, given that many collaborations, if it was up to Nintendo to do them all on their own, their output would be less than it is. That could give a better picture of what they can do on their own.
