Star Fox being Nintendo's "big game" of the year ... lets be real ... Nintendo called off the horses on the Wii U a long time ago.

Star Fox, Devil's Third, Mario Tennis, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival are just filler titles to ride the Wii U out, you'll notice Nintendo did not develop any of these games internally by themselves they're all farmed out.

It's only a small handful of posters here that are naively clinging to the hope that Wii U has any real future left, most of us have accepted the truth.

Right now Nintendo is just like a star athlete who's playing the game at half speed because his team is losing by 50 points and there's no point in getting hurt in the process.

I get the point that you're trying to make and I agree with you. But the way you listed the games, comparing SF0 to mario tennis, devil's third and amiibo festival, like that you're trying to put them on the same level. That feels wrong to me.

Pokken, TLoZ:TPHD and Star Fox Zero, while they not scream "BEST GAME EVAH" for many, they are all solid games, not mere fillers like the ones that you listed.

I'm not a huge fan of the forced motion controls. I am however having a blast playing through Co-op with my wife.

Star Fox Guard is really fun too!

The NES definitely wasn't. Pretty much every classic from that era holds up. NES is host to a famously timeless era of games.

What holds up from that era then? I'd say River City Ransom, Ninja Gaiden 1-2, Kirby, and SMB3 all hold up really well. The older Castlevanias were really put to shame by SOTN. The original Zelda doesn't tell you what to do or where to go. Metroid was made obsolete by the superior GBA remake. Final Fantasy, and Dragon Warrior don't hold up well at all.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

  • That's hilariously bad XD. The main story doesn't take 4 hours, main + extras take more that 4 and half and hour (I'm not sure what to include as extras in this game, if we're talking about main story + unlock the rest of the levels, it took me about 7 hours), and completionist is way more than 7 hours. I mean, I don't know who sended those "lengths", but it's not close to reality. I'm 10 hours into the game, and though I unlocked all the levels, completionist demands way more than 7 hours. There are 19 different paths in arcade mode, plus 70 medals to get. It's impossible unless you're God or something.

"All of this would have been welcome in the early 2000s, but the years of disappointing follow-ups and the overall progression of industry standards leads to Star Fox Zero having the impact of an HD rerelease rather than a full sequel. Being able to beat the game in 2-3 hours doesn't help, no matter how many branching paths or lackluster challenge missions are included."

The Giant Bomb staff are humans as far as i know.

Yep, of course, I said that the main story doesn't take 4 hours XDDD. I was merely talking about the main+extras part and the completionist part. Those are not close to the truth. Completionist length is hilariously bad.

  • That is absurdly inaccurate.

That's pretty accurate. After playing 10 hours I now feel like a fucking boss XDDDD. My improvement was massive. When I first fight that desert "worm" boss, it took me about 10 minutes to beat it. Now I can beat it in 1, 2 minutes easily. I loved that moment. It was a great satisfaction feeling XD.

How D3rd is filler? You didn't played it, don't you?
