Forums - Politics Discussion - Utah officially deems porn a public health crisis

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/04/19/evil-degrading-addictive-harmful-utah-officially-deems-porn-a-public-health-crisis/

It's official: Pornography is a public health crisis. At least in Utah.

The state proclaimed as much Tuesday after Gov. Gary Herbert (R) signed off on a resolution that deems pornography "a public health hazard" that can result in wide-ranging harm to individuals and society at large.

"We hope that people hear and heed this voice of warning," Herbert said at a signing ceremony. "For our citizens know that there are real health risks that are involved and associated with viewing pornography."

The resolution, passed through the state legislature, recognizes a need for education, research, prevention and changes to policy to address the issue.
In his speech Tuesday, Herbert likened pornography to drugs and alcohol in its capacity to "tempt our youth."

"We also want our young people to know that there's a particularly psychological and physiological detriment that comes from addiction to pornography," he said.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Let me guess, one of the health hazards is that you'll go blind if you look at porn, right?

Isn't Utah one of those heavily religious states? Welp, so much for keeping religion and government separate...

I think it is. I believe alcohol is watered down there.

I have health issues listening to that moron, and no one is going to tell him to stop speaking. I'm pissed right now!

Those kids are gonna be some scary freak bastards.   You never ever demonize sex.  it never works out well.

1. Porn is the safest sex there is.  Its much safer than polygomy which is perfectly fine in Utah...

2. The reason why everyone is addicted to porn is becuse its one of the only pleasurable things about Utah...

3.  Maye if they weren't so backwards they could get laid.

4.  Utah is a public health crisis.  How about that.

If you guys actually read the OP it is about porn ADDICTION and not just viewing porn in general. Of course viewing porn is not a health crisis, but having a porn addiction (just like any other addiction) is detrimental to psychological and emotional health. This isn't a "religious propaganda" or an attempt at shaming you for watching porn. I think society as a whole needs to have a greater understanding about porn addiction, and judging by every post before mine, I think it's great that Utah is at least acknowledging it.
